AMMO?????

Have talked with a few different people about the problem, a couple cabelas reps I have talked with on the phone told me they are expecting things to be getting caught up soon, before the end of the summer, wal mart gun counter manager pretty well says the same. Supposedly manufacturers are supposed to be catching up soon and more ammo in stores should be coming available, however so long as people keep on buying stuff before it can even be put on the shelf, supply and availability will probably continue to be a problem.

Picked up the last box of .223 at wal mart here this morning for $38 with tax. They had 4 boxes left when I got to the counter, each of the guys ahead of me bought one even though they could have each bought 3. I really don't need it, I have plenty and have everything I need to reload minus the bullets. Figure with what brass is going for these days, kinda hard to pass up .38 per loaded round.

I read a post on a rimfire site about Walmart. This gentleman went to his local store, and yes, the

shelves were empty. He went back home, got on his puter, looked up his local Walmart, and check their supply of ammo. Lo and behold, they had the ammo buried behind the counter. When asked directly about it to an employee, they did state they had it. He bought what he wanted. I don't know if all Walmarts are doing the same thing, but it's worth a try.

I buy from one of the largest wholesalers in the country. I called them a couple days ago and asked them. They said they had no idea when ammo will start being available. They said they couldn't even let me know as thousands of their buyers have asked the same thing. It just filters in a little at a time. The same holds true for primers, powder, brass and bullets. I check daily on their website. Meanwhile I have orders piling up with no way to fill them. Of course I'm not Wal-Mart so I'll be down the list when things do break loose. The government has ordered so much ammo for Homeland Security and the Social Security Departments it has left us civilians out in the cold. Lynn

22lr is still showing up you just have to call around and then get it quick. seems like 270, 30-06, 300 win mag, and other common calibers are around and prevalent enough. 308, 223, and most rimfire ammo is hard to find. 223 is the hardest rifle ammo to find. for handgun ammo 9mm, 45, and 40 seem to be hardest to find in that order. it will pass with time. i've looked in NY, VT, NH, and ME.

Hasnt been a real issue for me, I frequent 2 shops for ammo 1 in NH and 1 in VT. Up until the last 2 weeks 22lr was the only caliber that seemed to be in low supply. Now I notice 9mm and.223 are gone from the shelves. Truth be told, I've had a bunch of extra work over the last few months and have stocked up quite nicely.

Yep, .223 and .308 are tough to find even finding brass for those are difficult. See some 17 hmr on the shelf at our local stores and have noticed cabelas showing it in stock most of the times I have looked, never any 22 lr stuff. Every time I get in wal mart at least one or two people will walk up to the counter and ask about 22 lr and the answer has been the same. Also hear a lot ask about 9mm. They have had some 22 mag ammo but it even goes quick. As for the .270 and other stuff you think would be in good supply, they are even short on it around here but they do have some. Last week they had one box of .270 a couple different 300 cal magnums and some other premium ammo. Would guess all total on the shelf was less than 20 total boxes of deer caliber hunting ammo.

seem to be in good enough shape now.... just went to Dick's Sporting Goods and picked up some more. I've got a couple bricks of 22lr so that should hold me over until more of it shows up. i'm in good shape with everything except 223. can't seem to find it though in a hunting load... especially in Black Hills 60gr Vmax.
