Hunt or be Hunted
It's a combination of things. 1st so many new media outlets that take up people's time. 2nd is that the forum has taken a much younger turn which turned off several older members. Too much bickering and such. It's tough for someone in the 40+ category to connect with the large influx of youth. IF anyone on this site can give a hand to new hunters, Or young members that don't know much. Then I'm ALL FOR IT!! When I joined in 2008, I was only 14 years old. I didn't know all that much about hunting. I'm 19 now... This place (And members) have helped me a lot in the deer woods. I now know more then I never have because of R.T forums. So I'm all for the young people getting on here. If anyone has a problem with young guns coming on this forum, Then that's not right at all. As for everything slowing down. I still get on here everyday. I hardly ever log on. Too many cry babies. Politics is a big thing on here anymore. Has nothing to do with hunting. So I just leave my mouth closed, Smile, And move on with my day. Work and side jobs, And my Girlfriend keeps me sane nowadays. As everyone would, I'd love to see this forum go back to the way it was when I joined. Good day all.

Tominator
Pretty much agree with Ruth. Lots of social media out there, tons of apps and phone things people can get involved in nowdays. I know I spend more time on Facebook than I do here anymore.

Your bottom statement hits it right on the head. It's not that anyone had a problem with youth in general. There are a ton of guys who will help out and are eager to. It does get to be redundant though when the same questions pop up multiple times in the same week.
Ravin R10 man
Excuse me; Politics plays a huge part in your hunting freedom young man, and unless we all ban together, we will surely hang seperately..last I checked we do have the freedom to discuss the issue on R.T. you may actually learn more truth here than the "mush" the libs fed you in school...sad to say, and that is is the number one problem with todays youth, you are being brain washed by the educational system

Ravin R10 man
Your entitled to your opinion, no matter how wrong it is. see what I mean?....case in point, thank you Bug..I rest my case I will also say this about higher education, it's actually further , indoctrination to the Liberal way of thinking. I warned Ash of this when we took her to college, to which I got a reply, "what do you know, you dont have a degree"...Graduation day, the keynote speaker started off reffering to God as "she"...of course it went downhill from there including quotes from the Kuran., (which by the way is taught to grade school children in textbooks that are incorrectly written). Afterwards , Ash told me.."Dad, you were right". Edited April 9, 2013 by Mathews XT Man
Adjam5
I must agree on a few of the aforementioned. Facebook and twitter seem to be all the rage now with computers and mobile devices. That has stolen a good deal of people from here. Now...as for the holier than thou crowd... That also had something to do with folks leaving. I know we must all play nice and it is a family board that youth frequent. But I have seen a few that are quite thin skinned and take lots of stuff to heart. Most of us here are eager to teach and spread what they know about a plethora of topics. Many here are quite generous also and will stop at nothing to do something nice for someone. A few here are also Master torturers who keep thier license current. Either way...I'm not leaving. I have made and met some nice folks here at Realtree since 2005 and this BB has been my introduction to BB's and how I measure other BB's that I frequent. I am happy to be a member here. BTW...I don't do facebook or the other stuff either. Yeah Yeah Yeah...I know...Im a dinosaur at 48

Dawg
This thread is proving me correct and the sun is shining!Im sure the horse's head is getting a little red being so high. I rode a horse one time. The saddle decided to slide sideways while the horse was in full mach-9 mode. Pucker factor greatly increased at that moment. Then I rode another one down on the coast by Galveston. Drunk beach bums, little kids building sand castles and a 1000 pound animal don't mix well. bowhunter97
Large influx of youth? There is like 5 of us that are regularly posting. I dont think thats all that many with as many member are regularly on. I think its just a lack of people having time to get on.

NS whitetail
I still poke around here once in a while, it sure has changed. I agree, FB and other sites have taken away from the forums ............. but I strongly think that a few years ago when there was alot of arguing and crap going on on here that it drove some people away. fly
What happened to REALTREE FORUMS?? Mathews XT, college will expose a young mind to other views because all religious/political views must be allowed to have a voice in higher education (granted there is a proper place and time). It's the American way and even God Himself provides us with free will. I'm a professor at a university and vote republican (most of the time) attend a Lutheran church, I'm against abortion, and anti-gun legislation. I have 5 whitetails and two bears in my living room. When I teach I avoid indoctrination as any decent professor should do. I teach pharmacology and must address the drugs used for abortion. I present the facts, and allow debate, but avoid expressing my beliefs in the class. I was actually accused of being pro-abortion by a student and her father/priest (not exactly sure whom it was) because I taught students about abortion drugs. Sorry to get off topic. smha6784
What happened to REALTREE FORUMS?? I started visiting the RT forums rite before hunting season last year, one thing I noticed is that when new members post topics, or chime in on a topic no one really responds. This to me was a let down because no matter age or what ever the difference, the hunting community that I know that I grew up around embraces fellow hunters and forms a bond. Ravin R10 man
Fly Im glad you do allow discussion on both sides...many do not..more often than not Christianity is ridiculed along with the young person who brings up the topic..but talk about other cults..all day long.. anyways 6784smha...alot of looks but many are not logged in or are just looking with no intent on posting...not like a few years ago for sure...stick around and post, perhaps the topic was just discussed in another post
MUDRUNNER
I still check in most every day. I've never really been a guy that starts many new threads, so most of my posts over the years have been replies. I would say that new threads are about 1/4 of what they used to be. When I joined there were new threads started every day, and some days I would check in two or three times a day. We had NHL threads, NASCAR fantasy leagues, MLB fantasy leagues, word games, etc. It seems to be a domino effect.....fewer members....fewer new threads...fewer posts...no need to check in as much anymore. It doesn't seem that theres any real marketing going on to try and get new blood here either. Let's get some deer and turkey contest prizes, maybee a fishing contest in the angling room, a few giveaways throughout the year for forum members, maybee some sort of incentive for people that stick around. Usually posts will get replies from new members, unless the topic is one that no one has an answer for or is something that maybe had just been posted, even still most of the time when older members see a new member post they will welcome them. A contest with prizes for members might encourage more activity. The old icon game was one that got people exploring the site. As far as the members driven away, seems like beating a dead horse by some. No wonder some who were regular posting and contributing members have not been an active part since that last pointless bickering session a couple years ago.
