What happened to REALTREE FORUMS??

I still check in every few days, but am no where near as active as I once was. Part of that is life being much more busier than it once was. Part of it is being on an in state forum that sort of is more of what I'm looking to read. Part of it is that this place is just nowhere near the same as it once was.

This place was awesome at one time. Couldn't pop in to the sports room without having several different discussions about whatever sport was going on at the time and some sort of fantasy ot pick em league going on.

The bow, deer, and turkey hunting forums always had interesting threads in them. They seem to be cluttered with rookieish threads these days however, my "favorite" being what bait and decoy to use. I still check in to see the kill stories from the posters that have always killed good deer and written awesome turkey stories, but in doing so, I try hard to avoid the threads that make my stomach turn.

I've been on here for a few years but never was a frequent poster.

Not one of those who reply to a lot of posts just to get your count up.

I don't mind the political posts. I think it's kind of fun to read other people's opinions on things.

Perhaps the one thing I would decry about this place is the emphasis on monster bucks.

Big bucks are nice and all that and of course every hunter would like to get a crack at one.

But to the average hunter a big buck just isn't normally in the picture.

Give them a chance to go out with their rusty but trusty rifle, spend a few weekends with family and old friends, maybe get to shoot a spike or even a doe and fill their tag and they consider it a season well spent.

I've not been mistreated here by any means but from past conversations I wouldn't think of posting my luck at getting a 4 point or a bagging nice big doe.

The emphasis here is so much on MBs it's harder for a newcomer who just likes to be in the woods for a few days and is happy with whatever he gets to feel he's amongst his peers and not amongst professionals.

Great point. I didnt get anything at all last year but if i had it probably would have been a small buck or a doe and i would have felt kind of scared posting it on here because i feel that someone might get offended that i shot a small deer. I can definitely see how a newcomer would be afraid to post about one.

Once upon a time, our site had a big following in chat. I have watched things change over the years. It seems, everynite we had our "group" getting together for a talk, tons of fun !!

I don't find fault with anyone not having the time anymore, I couldn't either.

This i still my favorite site, and will be forever. I say, give it a chance, and it will

be your site also. I welcome all younger youth to enjoy and learn.

I wasn't ever much of a poster. I have shared some successful pics from time to time and offerred advice to people coming to hunt my areas (Texas/Oklahoma). Used to be my go to site every free minute I had. I agree, differing opinions and know-it-alls is why I don't frequent the site. Facebook/social media has nothing to do with it for me. Archery talk still seems to be blazing and I believe it is due to being more lenient with the content allowed.

The main reason? People who say the .223 caliber isn't sufficient for taking deer. Tell that to the twenty my family has killed. Furthest distance travelled once shot was less than 50 yards...guessing 90% have dropped dead in the tracts. Not to mention the infinite number of Hogs killed. It's an amazing caliber with so many options and perfect for youth/women....& men. This one pushed me over the limit.

XT, I went college to learn, majored in Natural Resources, loved it, most of my professors where very professional, kept their personal views to themselves, but it was an ag school though. While on recruiting duty I learned, if someone walked up and complained to me while in uniform, the best way to respond was, you just nod your head, and tell em, I respect your opinion even if I don't agree, that's why I wear this uniform, if your ever interested in keeping those rights, come and see me! The mind of the youth starts in the house, with the parents, don't blame the education system for doing their job, lay blame where it should, parents!

Ya'll really wanna know what happened to this site?

OK, here it is guys. See there was a user we banned back about 5 or 6 years ago, I will have to do some diggin later on when I get a chance. He kept trying to come back, his last words here were that he was gonna take this place down. Has not been the same since.;)

I take part of the blame. Buckee and I had a rather public argument that got somewhat outta hand and a line was drawn in the sand basically. From that week on this place has never been the same in my opinion. It happens unfortunately.....differing opinion, views of whats right/wrong, levels of maturity, etc. It will never be the same....said it before and say it again.

I rode a horse one time. The saddle decided to slide sideways while the horse was in full mach-9 mode. Pucker factor greatly increased at that moment. Then I rode another one down on the coast by Galveston. Drunk beach bums, little kids building sand castles and a 1000 pound animal don't mix well.

You do know that you could have told someone to unplug the ride and they would have...Right? :D

William, I'm sure you dont plan on putting any name out there, I dont see that helping anything...at this point it's water under the bridge, and the people involved need to make amends, if they so choose.

I sure miss the people that left, I wish they would come back.

The know it alls will continue to know it all.

The searchers for answers will always search no matter the answers they hear.

The thin skinned will always be thin skinned and cry.

The humorless will never find humor.

And the ones that have left wont come back.

The only hope this place has to getting back like it was in the "good old days" is to get a fresh batch of folks in here, get the people that think they know everything to not post, and the folks willing to help people respond in a fashion where the new person has to respond back to create a communication and not just a question and answer.

This isnt like any other forum I have ever been on. Every single forum has different opinions, way greater arguements than whats been on here and even more thin skinned folks than here, yet they are still going strong.

The fact that you have lurkers responding saying they dont respond because they feel they cant becaues of people putting them down or acting like they know everything in the world should open your eyes, but as this thread has shown those folks will never see themselves as others do and would never admit it if they did. Lame.

Shame some don't feel like they can post pictures of their deer or stories for thoughts they would be put down, honestly don't believe that most here have intentions of ridiculing others. Most of us here would probably agree a trophy is in the eyes of the hunter, and most offer congratulatory remarks regardless, however there are sometimes a few.....

Wish we had some monster bucks around here, truth is a 130 class deer here is viewed as a monster, where in Ohio or Indiana it might be called a "skipper". I know we had some differences in opinions on my using the term "dinks" in one particular thread. I hold out for deer here, and sometimes that means I go a season not killing anything(I get skunked), but I usually have a fair idea what is around and try to challenge myself. No disrespect was ever meant to anyone for taking deer they are proud of. It is unfortunate that on the internet that sometimes things get read in and feelings get hurt when that was not the intentions at all. I always enjoy reading stories and seeing pics, especially of kids with their success and smiles on their faces. Again, the trophy is in the eyes of the hunter and I would never put another hunter down for taking any deer that they are happy with.

There have been some to suggest that .243 is not enough for efficiently killing deer.

I am sure I said somewhere along the way in a thread or two that .223 was not something I would likely use for deer, I would probably not encourage a new hunter to use one for deer here, but it obviously works fine for you. Sure wouldn't let that be a reason not to post here.

Differences in opinions don't necessarily mean someone does not respect yours, just don't always agree.
