Jeramie
Right after my wife and I got married we bought a male miniature Schnauzer. A very short while later we bought a female companion for him. The female lived to be around 12 and got out on the 4th of July because of fireworks. A day later I got a call that she had been hit by a car. I brought her home and buried her. It was very, very hard. Our Girl Bessie.... I’m not that real soft hearted guy and had plenty of dogs over the past 36 years. However, these two have been different. They were truly our first kids. They went everywhere with us. Our oldest child is only 7 and our male schnauzer is almost 16. The loss of Bessie was hard but now we had to make a harder decision. We are taking Bowser to the vet in the morning at 10:30 to be put down. He has cancer we have had removed from his lip before. Its so bad he can't eat well. He still looks mostly healthy but his hips are bone. He also stinks to high heaven because he can no longer hold his urine. It has caused skin issues because he soaks his bed and all he does for the most part is lay in bed anymore. He gets no attention because he stinks. Rarely does he get much more than a quick scratch. He is mostly deaf and mostly blind. He walks into things pretty regular as he can only see basic shapes. He has, on more than one occasion, busted his lip (cancer) open from walking into things. It bleeds bad...Still with all of this its not an easy thing to do. He is by far the best kid (dog) we have ever had and is very, very special to us. This is dang impossible but has to be done. I can’t imagine the decision for people to have to pull a loved one from a heart machine, vent, etc. To be honest it just hurts. Going to be a rough weekend.....Love you Bubby Dog.. already miss you terribly.

wtnhunt
Sorry to hear that Jeramie. Pets become part of the family for sure. Definitely tough to do, especially with those that are so good with the kids.

MUDRUNNER
Man..sorry to here that Jeremy. It was the same circumstances as us. We had old Blu for 5 years before our first kid was born. I just had to put him down 2 weeks ago at 14 years old. The hardest part was telling the kids that I had to take him to the vet and that he wouldn't be coming home with me. bowhunter97
Sorry to hear that man. A few years back we had to put down one of our labs (she was 15) and it was the toughest animal i have ever seen put down and my moms a vet so i have see my share go through our house. Its tough man. That labs son is now 12 i believe. It will be harder to lose him since i've known him longer cause we got them at the same time. Sorry to hear about that it's rough at first but it gets easier. Jeramie
The girls, including my wife, cried all weekend. It was a bad deal. We sat in the vet for 1 1/2 hours until we finally could agree to do it. His life was pretty much downhill. He was healthy enough to live quite a while longer but being that he was almost completely blind and def he had pretty much given up. We could have "propped" him up for likely another year or two but he would only leave his bed once to twice a day. His quality of life was horrible. Our local vet (my wife worked for him for 8-years running his office) is as good as they come. He never rushed us, talked to us the entire time. When it was over he wrapped our friend in a towl we brought, then laid him in a pet coffin for us (heavy cardboard). He really made life easier. Still, my girls all feel apart from Friday to yesterday. Yesterday morning we got up and decided to skip Church so everyone could rest from a long weekend (birthday party, running, etc). I got on the net and started looking for local breeders. Being I’m only about 30 minutes from NW Arkansas I searched there too. After a few hours of digging we found a new puppy that looked interesting, the price was right, etc. We called, agreed on a price, and then made the 2-hour drive to Fayetteville. We picked up a 12-week old Miniature Schnauzer (party color) from a woman who has been a Vet Tech for 23 years. Healthy puppy..... The girls are thrilled. My wife is still heart broke but the puppy certainly is helping. Met JoJo... Our new pain in the rear that kept us up until 1:00 this morning when we finally decided to put him in bed with us. He then slept the rest of the night on my head.

But time and Jo-Jo will makes things better for you. Good luck with your new dog.
