VermontHunter
Well to say the least my hunt this morning was on the wierd side once again ... I get to my blind at 5:00 am this morning and get all setup, and it wasn't long after that the Thunder Gobbles start to echo in the morning air. I figure I'm in for some action, like I said " I figured " the Toms had something different in mind as usual. I could get them to answer my calling but they weren't leaving the confines of the ravine, and enter the meadow. This goes on until about 7:30 am when what I thought was a bearded hen ( Leo is sure it's a Jake ) no matter either way it's a Turkey .. lol ... entered my setup from behind my blind, it lingered about for abit and wondered off ,, but soon returned to tempt me once again, but I held out for the Toms that were gobbling thier fool heads off still. This darn turkey wondered off again only to return again .. so I made sure it had a beard and let the 887 send some #5 down range at 38 yards and put that darn thing on the ground pronto .... It wieghed in at 13.5 lbs. and had a meazly 2" beard, but hey like antlers I don't eat beards .. lol Here's the IT Turkey .. lol Edited May 1, 2013 by VermontHunter
colorado bob
Conglads, on the gobbler. Nothing wrong with a jake. State of Vermont says it's a legal bird, you took him fair & square. FYI---Colorado says jakes are legal & I've taken then in past And will again if given the chance. Bob

Turkey is Turkey to me and the wife just loves the stuff ... Don't get me wrong I would love a BIG Tom .. but it's not the end of the world if I tag a Jake or a hen .. Congrats!!! Tail tells me that it's a jake. good luck to all the dog The way this bird was purring and putting, I was convinced it was a hen ,, guess I still have alot to learn about these birds ..
