VermontHunter
Well I decided to take some advice on my decoy setup and tweaked it abit ( THANKS Leo ) it worked like a charm. I get to my blind at 4:30 am this morning leaving me plenty of time to setup before light. I get settled into my blind and about 5:15 am 2 thunderous gobbles let loose just behind me, so I let out a couple tree yelps just to let the gobblers know where I was, and go silent for abit. The gobblers continued their gobbling on the roost, so at very first light I give a few yelps and they immediately answer, so I give a few more and everything went silent on me. This has happened to me before, I have a tendency to over call so this morning I did nothing and had a coffee instead. It went on like this until about 6:00 am when a gobble from close quarters let loose to my right, so I peak out to see a parade of 3 Jakes and 2 nice long beards headed my way. So I let a nice light yelp out and all heck broke loose I didn't even have time to turn on the video camera, when the long beard was right on my setup that Leo suggested. 25 yards out and I let the M887 bark with some 3" #5's dropped him right in his tracks. I could have doubled with a second long beard but I filled that tag the day before yesterday.. DANG IT .. lol I've learned a few things this season for sure that will help me out in the future, no one is ever too old to learn and this seems to be the place to get that classroom education if you are willing to listen and then apply it. Here's my 2013 Tom 21 lbs. 11" Beard 1.25 " Spurs And here's the setup Leo suggest, and it worked like a charm ,, THANKS Leo.

pointing_dogs_rule
Congrats!!! You are correct in that one of the biggest mistakes people make is "OVERCALLING". Learned along time ago... it only takes one call to let them know where you are located. After that then very few and soft calls. good luck to all the dog
