col help for sierra game king

Figured the sierra website would have data available and figured wrong. Good weekend to reload a few rounds with the sloppy mess, but stuck at this point. Loading .308 win with 165 grain hpbt game kings. My handbook does not have this bullet, could not find any imr data for this bullet either. Can anyone tell me the col?

Shouldn't your particular rifle determine the C.O.L. William ?? Either by the length of the magazine box or by the bullet's relationship to the lands ?? I'd start with a C.O.L. a few thousandths longer than a factory load you might have laying around and start comparing that against your rifle's ability to chamber the round. Then adjust shorter, if needed, from there.

SAAMI max C.O.L. is 2.810 "

Thanks Don. Learning as I am going with reloading, just looking for a safe starting point for seating depth purposes to get my die set right. Thought maybe someone here might have a sierra manual or software with their data. I set up yesterday morning and loaded a round and it looked like the bullet was seated too deep, so I measured it and it came to 2.583, going to have to pull that one. Made adjustment and loaded another and it was 2.616, closer but not sure that one would be safe either.

I have not measured my rifle, do not yet have a gauge. I don't have any factory loads with this exact bullet, would be nice if I did, would just measure off of one of them. I have plenty of factory loads with 150 grain core lokts(2.709) and 168 grain match bthp's(2.779). They won't have the same length with different bullet designs, want to get the shoulder where it needs to be. Those match rounds are pretty darned accurate out of that rifle, good starting point if I can get my loaded rounds to have the shoulder land in the same place. Considered measuring off one of those loaded rounds in the die, should be able to set it up so the shoulder will hit the same despite having different tips? Back out the seater plug with the loaded round to get the shoulder to land the same in the die?

I will probably call sierra tomorrow.

Contact Larry at Midway USA

You got his number Martin?

Don't figure Larry would take my call, really not much of a fan of midway anyway.

Ended up backing out the seater plug about 5 turns to get the 168 grain factory load and my load to fall in the same place, miked to the bottom of the die from the bottom of the shell case just like if it were in a shell holder in the press. Put my loaded round at 2.736. Still going to give sierra tech support a call.
