mitrrophybowhunter
I just bought a Browning Shorttrac in 300 WSM. I was wondering what I could do to it for a reasonable price to increase accuracy close to that of a bolt action. Would that be a bedding job??? I am not sure what to do. Keep in mind I have not yet shot it and it is killling me.
AJ
Re: What would you do Why not shoot it first before worrying about how to fix it? Ever hear of the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"? If the gun does not shoot to a reasonable accuracy level (under 2" at 100 yards), you can send it back to Browning for repair, spend a lot of money on your gunsmith getting it to shoot to a decent level, handload your own ammo, or trade it for another gun. A bedding job on the BAR is not like doing a bedding job on a bolt gun. Since the stock comes in two pieces, it is a different critter. If it does not shoot good enough, probably the least expensive thing would be to have a BOSS system installed on the barrel. That would probably run you a couple hundred dollars. too_pointer
Re: What would you do I had a Browning BAR in 7 mm mag, that easily shot under 2" from the factory with the right loads. Shoot it and maybe try a few different loads to see how you like it. too_
BigBuckVideo
Re: What would you do I shoot the older BAR. Mine was made in 1979 and I have never done anything to it other than regular cleaning. THis gun will shoot groups a little smaller then 1/2" at 100 yards. JimT
Re: What would you do I agree. I would shoot it with a few different brands of ammo and see what you got. I think you will find it is probably fine as is. If you cannot get tight groups, then try playing around with the gun.
