They are called paddlefish Mike. It's a catfish species I think but they are filter feeders. There's a lot of them around here but they are a protected species and illegal to keep if caught. I had to get this one in the boat to get the line untangled from his bill, but it was barely breathing and sank when I released it.

They are good to eat though and the cool part of them is they have no bones. You skin them, gut them, and slice away.

Thanks for the info, John. I have heard of paddle fish. Very interesting fish. I read up on them a bit and was impressed on how big they can get. I couldn't imagine 60 lbs of that coming into the boat!
