ruttinbuc
These fish are a ton of fun. Video is kind of long, but the action, sights, and sounds say it all. The video was taken during a local tournament that is in it's 31st year. Not what it used to be. Sort of like everything else. RangerClay
Neat! I've heard about the shad run but have never tried it. I've only fished for trout in the Delaware.
redkneck
Cool video! I've never seen shad that big, but I don't suppose I've ever tried to catch them either. We just net them and use them for bait mostly here.

Joe, they are a ton of fun. Not the best for table fare, but they will make your arms hurt, no doubt! Cool video! Yes John, people often think of the American shad as a little bait fish. A lot of confusion there. Most rivers on the east and west coast have a run of American Shad followed by blue back herring. A lot of places were void of them in the sixties due to the pollution of many rivers. They are making a strong comeback in numbers. The Columbia River run in the west has millions of fish migrating and spawning. Our club has a day where we catch shad to raise in live tanks for the Shad in the Schools program. The kids really enjoy raising the fiah and then release the fry in the summer at he appropriate time. Here is a clip of that day. Dawg
Gotta love Administrative Custom List settings.....Youtube is blocked here at work. I'll have to watch the vids at the house. I caught a big shad (about 1/2-3/4 lb'er) while fishing for hybrid bass. Big ones like that aren't very common around these parts.
