Ravin R10 man
Buddys Boy about 24 went pistal shopping cash in hand, stepped up to pistal display at gander Mt., asked the guy behind the counter if he could look at gun, he was asked point blank if he had a CCP...he did not, and the guy would not even let him have any access to any gun....whats up with that? He wanted to feel the grip before he purchased anything, but they lost a customer ready to buy....

RangerClay
Ok..... Am I missing something? If he does not have a pistol permit then he is not allowed to handle the pistol. I don't know about Wisconsin but that's the law in many states including here in NY.

Tennessee all that is required to buy a pistol is a clear background check and you have to be 21. Gander mountain here lost my business years ago with their lousy treatment of customers, did not help that they overpriced pretty well everything. We actually went by our closest store a few weeks ago after our son had a doctors appointment and thought I would see if they might have anything reloading related, was just a few other people in the store besides us. Nothing reloading related except one box of bullets that was way overpriced. We wandered over to the gun counter and the guys standing there looked at me and my family and never said a word, no "hi can we help you", or "can we help you find anything", nothing. Ravin R10 man
Since WHEN do you need a permit to look at a firearm??..I can see a background check at purchase, to make sure your not a Felon..unless Lib Mn. passed some stupid law? It's not just any old firearm. It's a pistol. If your friend had asked to see an 870 then it probably would have been different. I know NY is Crazyville, but if your state requires a pistol permit (and it sounds like they do from your first post) then you're probably not allowed to pick up the pistol. Why would anyone try to buy a pistol if they don't even have a permit.
RangerClay
Tennessee all that is required to buy a pistol is a clear background check and you have to be 21. . Not exactly. According to this source Tennessee does have a permit system. And so does Wisconsin. Concealed carry in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Now I have gone into a few gun shops and handled pistols without being asked to see my permit. That was because they knew me. But these big box stores don't know you from Santa Claus. One thing I will agree on. Gander Mountain is the absolute last place I would buy a pistol. Simply because their prices are too high. wtnhunt
Joe, concealed carry permit is not required to purchase or own a pistol in this state. Concealed carry permit is required only if you chose to carry your handgun in public places but you do not have to have the permit to buy or own a handgun in this state, http://www.nraila.org/gun-laws/state-laws/tennessee.aspx. wtnhunt
Why would anyone try to buy a pistol if they don't even have a permit. Sporting or recreation shooting at the range. Home defense. Sure others have reasons for owning a handgun and not intending to carry it concealed.
wtnhunt
Minnesota requires a permit to purchase Martin NRA-ILA | Minnesota, dunno for sure but Joe was probably right about laws in those states where that is the case not allowing potential buyers to handle handguns. Wisconsin like Tennessee does not require a permit. Seems kind of crazy to me that you have to have a ccp before you can purchase since most classes offered that I am aware of ask that you bring in your handgun to the class with you. wtnhunt
My disbelief was you needed a Permit just to LOOK at one.....in Mn, Wi not a problem Dunno Martin, state laws obviously vary quite a bit. Never would have thought a permit would be required to look at a handgun in a shop either. I know one outdoor store here that offers the carry permit class offers it at a greatly discounted price when you buy a handgun from them. Dawg
That's ridiculous. No permit needed in Texas to buy or to look at a pistola. Just have to be 21 and not be a felon.
Ravin R10 man
I was informed that one of the "OLD Guys" left on staff will let you look..but most of the new ones follow lock step with the new "stupid" law

dlriggins
I have said it before. Go south young man, and you will find a land where the fishing is slightly less but the local gun shop will hand you a firearm with a smile and a get a good feeling of the weapon prior to purchase NO waiting period just a quick bg check and the ccw permit is only a few months away for the non felon, no formal class needed and we even allow for the NFA weapons with the local peace officers signature. Yes sir the land you seek is the great state if Indiana, where Dem. and Rep. are both packing. You can even camp in my yard until you can find a place to stay how's that for hospitality. I do know of some shops that will let you handle one without a permit for that reason.

I think that formal class that permit applicants take at least here in NY is very good. even those who already have a permit and have shot pistols before can learn something. I was surprise at what I learned when I took it.
