robk
Re: Height of tree stand????? for me i hunt the height ofthe foilage and i also hunt the surrounding woods as well. if i can be hidden in a tree that low brnaches with plenty of cover and the wind is right i will hunt there if i have a spot that is 20 ft high and leaves and limbs below and above i hujnt in between if i am inthe woods and it;s late season and i can find a straight tree i will grab the climber and climb as high as 30 to 35 feet out of the sniffing power of the deer and hope they don't come into the area head high for whatever reason. hunt where you have the best cover and that will take care of you don't go to a tree that is bare and climb up it and hope they can't pick you off they can rob k
Guest BaerBucks18
Re: Height of tree stand????? I dont like going past 20' if i'm using hang on stands, but with my climber i can go pretty much as i as i want because i feel safer in it. I agree that cover is more important that height...I believe that u can successfully hunt at any height as long as you have good cover. Guest MarylandQDMA
Re: Height of tree stand????? I keep mine around 22' to 30' the higher, it is, keeps traspasers out. seems most don't like to get up that high. also we lack cover, so in order to have a chance of killing, i have to get up there. ilhnter
Re: Height of tree stand????? i hunt out of 2 types of stands at different hieghts. I have a ladder stand that is 16 ft high, but then when i hunt out of my lock on it is 20ft high. Have killed deer out of both no problem. 16 ft is plenty high enough
mathews4life
Re: Height of tree stand????? i hunt from the ground up. One spot i might pop up the ground blind and the next spot i might be 35' ft up. Its all about the set up for a specific location. Best thing i can tell u is get out there and JUST HUNT. Learn from ur mistakes and u will become a better hunter. Mathews

VTbowman
Re: Height of tree stand????? All I have to say is they been killing deer from the ground for 1000's of years... So is height really all that important? That being said I go 15 to 20'... LOL Although I have killed a few on the ground as well... Its all based on how high my stick ladder reaches while I am hanging my all welded steel frame chain-on's. Very heavy stands, so heavy I use my ATV's winch to just get them up there. I then tree peg the opposite of each ladder step and remove the stick ladder and its done. The ladder steps help me space my pegs, gives me a firm footing and something to grab onto other then the tree while hanging my stands and screwing in pegs. SaskMan
Re: Height of tree stand????? I like to be at least 20' feet up, go as high as 30' if the tree is right. I know I likely don't need to be, I just feel I can see better, the higher I go.
johnf
Re: Height of tree stand????? Box blind with a window is only 6 feet off the ground, but it has camo netting on the windows and you can't see in. My ladder stand is 15' and has camo netting hanging from shooting rail to conceal movement. I've had deer and coyotees come right under me. When I use a climbing stand I go at least 15' up to 25' depending on the cover, tree size and canopy hight.
