Conceal Carry Illinois

Update: Earlier this week IL became the last state to pass a CC law. The governor Pat Quinn Super Jack Wagon vetoed the bill, but the general assembly had enough votes and bypassed his veto. Looks like it will cost 150 for a 5 year permit. 16 hours of training unless you have prior service - then 8 hours. IL state police have to approve the training programs, and may take up to 180 days to do so. Once I get registered I'll make good on this right. I don't know what handgun to purchase for CC. My 357 mag with a 6 inch barrel is WAY too big. What do you all recommend? I was thinking 9mm, or maybe a 38 with a 4 inch barrel. I've heard that auto guns jam a lot - unless it's a glock. Interested to hear what you all have to say on this and what you use.

Conceal Carry Illinois

I carry a keltec PF-9, I like it. It's lite weight and small. I have the belt clip that keltec makes for it and it is very concealable. The wife carries a Taurus slimline 709. It's nice but doesn't have a belt clip and I really like that. But then again she puts it in her purse. My carry guns seem to get full of everything, dust, lint, dirt, anything and everything, so regular cleaning is necessary. Most people will tell you the best carry is a revolver, and they are probably rite but I still carry a semi.

It will be interesting to see what the requirements and training end up being. I thought I heard somewhere that if you've taken the hunters safety course that accounts for 8 hours of training. I wish it was a little cheaper, but numero uno here in Illinois is how the government can make money on it. By the time you figure in the training course and permit fees it could be pretty pricey.

I have a Glock 27 which is a very compact 40 caliber, Im in Illinois, and this is what I intend to carry.....I work in Rockford Illinois where they have killed 5 in 6 days because they are thugs, I work at the courthouse in felony courtrooms.....get a glock, or another reliable weapon, as if you come to Rockford, I can assure you...the thugs are armed..........al

I'm a police officer and for my off duty weapon I carry a Springfield XDS. It's a .45 cal with a 5+1 capacity. 5 round single stack magazine. It's easy to conceal in an inside the waistband holster and it shoots like a dream. It has a tang and trigger safety and not nearly as much recoil as you would think for a subcompact pistol.
