Hogs a danger?

No...we have Russian's around here and they are more aggressive than feral hogs, which is probably what you have. Even these Russian boars will run if they see or smell you, although their eyesight is poor compared to deer. Why mention that? I can walk toward one on the downwind side before it figures out what I am and takes off. The only time these Russians can potentially be dangerous is when you're trying to recover a wounded one.

They aren't a threat to safety as long as you don't:

  1. Corner them...they will turn and charge if they feel threatened
  2. Try to recover a wounded one as Rhino stated

Walking up on one before sunrise/after sunset and have it grunt/growl will make you think that you're about to die. :D

The best way to put it is that they are unpredictable. Most of the time they will just run off. But sometimes if you surprise one they will stand their ground and possibly charge.

They don't like flashlights at all. They will try to get out of the light quickly. Carry a good bright light going in and out of the woods in darkness. I use a light with at least two modes, a low mode for general walking around and a high mode if I need it.

Yeah I'm with you Dawg, nothing like a little loin cut up on the grill off a 40 pounder!

I hear ya! JMO...but the disadvantages outweigh the advantages...isn't because of danger either! That is unless you're including what running a tractor through their rooted up areas does to your back...especially when they're hidden in high grass till you hit them.
