Scbasshunter
I set a ladder stand up for opening of bow season in 2 weeks. The farm I hunt on is a working farm and one thing produced is mushrooms. My question is: If somebody were to pick mushrooms around my stand prior to opening weekend, is that going to keep the deer from coming around or by it? It is a working farm so there always seems to be trucks and an atv and people out and about the farm.
Ravin R10 man
deer are not going to tolerate people milling around, so are you set up on a mushroom production area?
Scbasshunter
Humans around stand. No, just wild mushrooms that apparently local restaurants pay good money for. They are legal.
Ravin R10 man
I thought spring was mushroom time?
Scbasshunter
Humans around stand. I don't know much about them. All I know is that there are a bunch of bright orange mushrooms that grow all over the place and restaurants pay good money for.
swhughes81
Humans around stand. Usually a pretty good rule of thumb is if it's a plant and it's colorful or bright it's usually poisonous.
wtnhunt
Ummm, probably not gonna work in your favor. Think I would consider moving to another area if possible. Last thing I would want would be sitting in a stand with a decent deer coming along only to have some shrooom hunters come along and blow it, or waste my time in a stand where human traffic blew the area in prior days. dbHunterNY
it's tough but usually they don't like intrusion. they'll pattern people like you do them though. they're much less tolerant in a random area in the woods than around an ag field though. i'd say move to a different spot or make sure nobody will come into your stand location during the season. Scbasshunter
Humans around stand. I sent a text out asking for that area to be left alone. Hopefully there is enough activity at the farm that somebody going through there wouldn't throw the deer off completely. If all else fails, I'll suck it up and throw my climber up and climb in the heat.
