strubedog
Handled a couple of guns and scopes today. Didn't know much about the kimbers until AJ mentioned them. Kimber Montana in 300 WSM and Tikka 300 WSM. Both were synthetic stock with stainless barrels. Kimber: I liked the stock a lot better but don't like not having a floorplate. Tikka: it had a smoother action and I can get 300 win mag versus the kimber only has 300 wsm Not sure which one I will choose. The tikka is almost half the price $563 versus $1069. For the cost difference I could get the tikka pillar bedded/floated and have money left over and/or get a new stock on it. I looked through some scopes as well. Kahles 3x9, Ziess Conquest 3x10x44 and swarovski 3x10x42. For my eyes I would rate swarovski, ziess and then kahles. The brightness and clarity of the swarovski was superior. Hoping to go west in next year or two for elk and draw a bear tag in home state.

Shaun_300
Re: My all around gun i have been using dad's Remington 700 .300 Win Mag for the past couple years for deer. i didnt like having the floorplate because with the chase hunting we do, its a pain in the butt having to unload and reload the thing every time we end or start a chase i got the Browning BLR .300 WSM in december, i like it a lot better, throw one in the chamber and put the clip in and away ya go both of those guns are awesome, the kimber sure is a beauty, but you sure do pay for it. the Tikka is also a nice gun. good luck with your choice! Guest lilcrackshot
Re: My all around gun Go with the Tikka. It might not have as nice a stock but they are one of the most accurate guns on the market. Good hunting!
tped
Re: My all around gun I tried to buy a Tikka last year in 300WSM in the T3 Lite stainless and could not get one. I jsut ordered the Kimber Montana in synthetic stainless 300WSM about a month ago. the wait will be 4-6 months but I think the Kimber is the better gun My price is $969, try to get fyour guy down a bit. strubedog
Re: My all around gun Why wait 4-6 months when you can get them from gunbroker.com etc... now for same price. Gander has them too but they will price match.
