PotashRLS
http://www.realtree.com/forums/deer-hunting/112169-would-you-take-buck-part-1-a.html Above is the link to Part 1 if you didn't see it. The history on this buck adds a little twist. He frequented the property last late season and had no left side. It seemed way too early to have shed that side, especially since he carried the right side way into winter. He looked to be a 2 1/2 then. Now he shows up in the same area this spring and develops into what you see in the pics. What you see on his left side is all his growth. He did not break anything off. If you look close in the pic he is looking at the camera, you can see the left side is much thicker than the brow tine on the right side. We are 95% sure he damaged his pedicle or has an abnormality to it. He will likely never have much growth on that side. What say ye now? Take him or not? We'll see if this makes a difference to anyone. Thanks for sharing.
hoosierhunter
Would you take this buck? Part 2 I'd shoot him then. If its a damaged pedicle he won't pass it on in his genes and he won't ever grow right. So living he passes decent genes but from a rack perspective he will never be right either. wtnhunt
That missing side would not have stopped me. I look for big bodied more mature deer and he fit. Was shooting before and still shooting.
whitetailfreak55
Yep I would shoot him then. Nice mature deer I'd would take him. Good luck with him!
Ravin R10 man
like I said on the first post..if I know he is a one horn..he is taking a dirt nap
Rhino
Nope...I still wouldn't shoot him with the additional information you've given. If its a damaged pedicle he won't pass it on in his genes and he won't ever grow right. So living he passes decent genes... Yep...exhibits good genetics on the right side and he's not passing on anything bad...just good with a damaged pedicle. I see no down side at all to passing him if it's a damaged pedicle, just good so I'll pass him for someone else that considers him a trophy. abrown
My question is, what else do you have to choose from, is he the only buck on the property? Where I hunt, no I probably wouldn't shoot him, but I don't know the potiental for your area.
Dawg
I've already shot him in your first thread.
Tominator
Depends on the circumstances, but I wouldn't unequivocally write him off.
PotashRLS
There are several 3 year olds starting to show up now. A quality 3 year old is a target animal due to high hunting pressure. Most in this area pass year olds but begin targeting 2 year olds.
Ethan Givan
I would let him walk.
RangerClay
You wouldn't want this deer to go through life lop sided! The does will all laugh at him! Choot'em and end his misery!
bowhunter97
It would have been hard in the first thread though i probably would have shot him and that hasnt changed. I'd lay the smack down on him.

My personal rule for over 10 years has been that I won't shoot a buck unless I am going to have him put on the wall. Then last year I had a busted up 3 year old hose me one morning for NO reason logical or otherwise. So when he walked under me the next morning I hosed him back. I had no intention of having him mounted as broken as the one side was. It was just that he made it personal and had it coming.
