StoneNix
Should I put out a salt/mineral lick for the deer? To grow em big? To attract em? Any suggestions I will take!
wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. Most minerals will attract. Some are more beneficial to deer than others. Had real good results here with trophy rocks and had good results with several others as well.
hoosierhunter
Attractant/Grower Minerals won't "grow" your deer unless you have major shortages of natural mineral where you hunt.
StoneNix
We dont have much mineral! I have thought about using Trophy Rock, just never done it yet!
Rhino
Like hossier said, minerals are only a supplement and a very small part of helping bucks grow big. They are also an attractant, especially during the hot months of the year. The most important things for maximizing the the potential of the bucks on your home turf is age & quality nutrition, year round...in that order. Areas where minerals are deficient it will certainly not hurt. Some places that have sufficient mineral the deer will not use minerals as much. We see mineral site useage here year round although it does fall off in the colder months.
dbHunterNY
you should put out trophy rocks if it's legal. you can put a trail cam on them to scout deer but once they change from their summer ranges activity drops a bit. minerals are needed and hit the most when bucks lose their antlers to when they shed velvet. during that time does are raising fawns and the minerals help them lactate, producing more and better milk.
