redkneck
So I'm taking my girls fishing on a charter boat fishing for their bday this year but I need to get them something and thinking about a tablet. Anybody got a suggestion on one that won't break the bank? Remember I gotta buy two!
Zizzer59
Tablet advice My little brothers had 2 off brand tablets and they weren't worth a dime. IMO in the tablet world you get what you pay for. I have an IPad mini and I love it. No complaints. Only downside is they are EXPENSIVE!! hoosierhunter
Tablet advice Look for refurbished iPads
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
You can get a refurbished iPad mini 16bg for $279, or a 16gb iPad 2 for $319 on Apple's site. I prefer the iPad, but I also have a Samsung Galaxy tab 2.0 7 inch that I mess around with. It works fine and can currently be picked up for $169 on Amazon. hoytshooter09
If your looking for a 7 inch tablet the Asus tablets are good and the Google nexus if your going bigger the Asus 10.1 is hard to beat quality and price but Samsung are the best for price but its gonna be hard to find in stores soon tab 3 and new iPads are about to be released so u will be able to find a lot of tablets on sale or marked down to get new versions in. Sam's club has a 7 inch Asus 32g tablet for $99 cheap but it is a good quality too.
MUDRUNNER
We have a 7" Lenovo that we bought from Best Buy about a year and a half ago. I think we paid about $180 for it, and it's been flawless so far. I actually went in looking at the Kindle Fire, but the Lenovo had more features for less money. The kids have about 10 or 12 games on it, I can check my e-mail with it, it reads PDF and Word documents, has a built in GPS, an SD card slot, and forward and rear cameras. The kids have dropped it several times and haven't broke it yet. It doesn't come with a manual though, but you can look it up online and print it out. That's really my only experience with a tablet. The Nexus looks like a good buy too.

wtnhunt
The samsung galaxy tab 2 we bought for Nicole for Christmas seems to be pretty durable. Thing has been dropped on these woods floors several times and still works fine. It got dropped on the concrete recently as Allison(our 7 year old) was getting in the car and it cracked the corner of the screen but it still works fine, no sensitivity issues or problems at all with that portion of the screen. Considered checking on getting it repaired, but dunno so long as it is working.

Jeramie
The Kindle Fire HD 7" tablets are on sale right now at $159.99. They are great. i had a 7 and recently upgraded to an 8.9". They are the Android operating system which means no Itunes and it runs exactly like an Andriod phone. We use our to watch Netlflix, watch movies, read, play games, etc. Im picking one up for our oldest this year for her birthday. Ive downloaded several kids games too. Very, very handy in spots where you need to occupy the kids. They also come with the camera and ability to video chat as well as have a Micro HDMI port so you can plug it into your TV to look at pictures, watch movies, etc.

redkneck
Thanks for all the advice. Ended up with two kindle fire HD tablets. I'm sure we'll all have fun with them.
Jeramie
They really are fun. You can also pickup Amazon gift cards to give them out for gifts, birthdays, etc. that way they can buy movies, apps, etc. Keep in mind that Amazon prime is something like $79 a year and you get all of the movies/ tv show on the prime list for that price. You also get 2 day shipping and so many free books to read a year. Its a good investement for the price.

FireStation46
Mini iPads. More apps out there currently than Android. In WI-Fi only, not expensive as long as the recipient have wireless at home
