Getting about that time

It's pretty tough because we can't use score or multiple does because of everyone's different regulations and no way to verify score.

Maybe add a bonus of 2 points if you kill a 10 or bigger......

I'd like to see better participation required. Every year guys sign up and then only check in a few times which sucks. It's just as much fun talking regularly with your team as anything.

Maybe we could draft teams such as fantasy football........

What about creating two man teams that enter together???? That might be kind of cool..... That locks in participation.....

Last year we did put a little more emphasis on participation, and several were removed for not participating early. That will be spelled out even better this time around.

Drafts would be fun I'm sure, I even suggested that for kicks and grins 2-3 years ago, but just the hassle of doing it and I'm sure some new members may feel less included doing that as well.

How about the winning team getting a trip to the Milk River next year on camera...could call the episode...In Your Wildest Dreams! :clown:

I hear what Pat's saying...can't say getting bonus points for 10 point or better bucks is fair since many hunters never see one on their turf. For others, they are common. As it is...you already get a point for each scorable tine on the buck you kill anyway. If you're going to consider bonus points at all (not saying you should)...the only fair way is by choice of weapon. Bonus points for a deer killed with a bow vs. a firearm. That way each participant has a fair chance for the bonus.

Team participation is still a concern. Like Pat, I enjoy getting to know teammates better through the team contest threads. Less hunters/team is an interesting thought but if a team gets stuck with a couple of hunters that post only once in a while that could be a problem. I know if there were just 2 teammates (including me) posting in a team thread, I'd loose interest in bothering to post in there. Might as well send PM's. If any of us want to do a duo or trio team deal it would probably be better to do that in a separate contest and make participation a LOT more stringent. That contest would also be all for fun of course. Hey...Pat can run it! :clown:

Don't know how or who would handle a draft.

This would be interesting...I don't think this should be a requirement for a harvest entry but it would be cool to set up a separate voluntary entry thread for misc. deer hunting pics to share with other deer contest participants. Set up the post thread right under the entry thread. Strictly voluntary to post those pics but if you don't ask, hunters won't think about it. Pics like the successful stand or blind and/or the view(s) from it. Some members might even share details why that particular setup was successful. Any pics relating to a deer contestants deer hunting this season would be cool & entertaining, be it at your camp, house, in the field, whatever...as long as it's relating to the deer hunting of deer contest participants. Comments to the pics posted are welcome too. BUT...we need to keep the trail cam pics in the appropriate forum, not there. They get scattered between the photography forum (where they really belong), the deer forum, and the bow hunting forum already. Anyway...just a thought. BTW...in the past I've shared some pics like this in our team's thread but not to the extent I'm talking about.

I'm a little annoyed with a member who signed up for our turkey team and never showed up or participated. Perhaps these people can get DQ'd from the deer contest or at least be warned.

Agree with the DQ idea for future contests, this had been brought up before but has never been implemented.

Part of the reason I quit signing up for any of the contests, I seemed to always end up on a team with multiple members who would quit posting and or did not enter deer they said they killed. Last time I participated I signed up as an alternate only after Chance asked for alternates to round out teams, ended up being one of the only members posting in our team thread after most members seasons got going. Seems to take the fun out of it when you are on a team and other members do not participate.

Far as the draft idea, dunno how that would work out, might do more harm than good with participation.

Other ideas that have been talked about, additional points for management practices like taking predators or taking does. Problem there is you have places that allow one deer period and places that do not allow for predator hunting and might be a headache trying to make up teams that would have a fair distribution.

No that's just going to make a lot of posts for the sake of posting. We have some great members that enjoy the contest but just don't post a lot. There is a difference however in "little participation" and "no participation"

Well just have to work it out as we do every year. 90 percent of the no posters will be axed though when teams are made and they don't show up in the first week or two, and I'll spell that out in the sign up thread.

Instead of voting on a best photo at the end of the season, make the photo entries part of the team points. The forums can vote on them at the end of the season which will add a secondary level of competition. No one would know for sure which team would be awarded the photo points hopefully keeping the contest more interesting throughout the season. We'd just have to figure out a point value and what kind of photo qualifies for voting (Successful hunter pics or others).

Just a thought to help draw more people to the contest.

I know Pat and I posted a fair amount last year in our team's thread i know some others posted but there were couple people who posted once in a blue moon. I think that it should something like you have to post atleast 1 times for every 2 days or somthingjust to keep people in touch.

I disagree...some participants that hit the road hunting simply don't have the means to post that often. Others that hunt some distance from their house using tents or whatever can't either. If you're relying on those hunters to use their cell phones to post you don't get cell phone service in many places sufficient to do that either. Some people don't even own cell phones where they can post too. Just my $.02.

I just think it'd be too hard. Maybe when the contest is over give 5-10 extra points to the team with the most posts in their thread

I disagree with that too. Heck, I could make 10 separate post in a team thread in less than an hour.

Interesting idea. Was nice how Jeff used to do the photo contest at the end with "best deer" and "best photo". Some of us who do not have the caliber deer like are in Ohio and Indiana still do our best to take the best field pics we can and nice to see votes on those.

Personally whether I participate in the contest or not I enjoy looking at the pics posted all in the contest thread. Seems we get more pics there than in the individual "success" threads posted in rooms.

While I agree with what you are saying Al, I noticed that the ones on the teams have been on were NOT those in the type situations you mention. I think we all can understand and appreciate those who hunt away from technology.

Getting about that time

What about creating a "trail cam contest" as a side bar for participants.... It starts on Sept 1 and ends Dec 31st. Kind of like the deer of the year award but for a trail cam. Using season dates also ensures participation and no one posting old cam pics. It also doubled as a hitlist thread for guys in the contest. We all love looking at pics so why not incorporate it into part of the activity.....

No points for it but just a voluntary participation deal....

Fine with me as long as it's all just for fun. I get a lot of trial cam pics from friends sharing their trail cam pics from here and the mid-west. Some of those bucks are HUGE. Some of them I get are with the understanding that I'll keep them confidential. I also get pics sent to me that come from who knows where. I don't share someone else's pics here since they're not mine unless they are pics they've gotten from somewhere else on the net. Would be easy for someone looking to win a trail cam contest for whatever reason using someone else's pics.

BTW...using paint, I can put any date and time on a pic that I want. I usually edit my own pics posted here using paint to center the buck and fill the pic with the buck as best I can for viewing purposes. If I include the time/date data, I'm honest about it. Can't say that's going to be 100% true for everyone though.
