Scbasshunter
I think the title speaks for itself. They are calling for rain on my opening day but I plan to hunt anyways. What should I do to my bow to take care of it after sitting in the rain?
WStreblo
Bow care after rain. I'd wax the string really well before you go hunting. Bows are pretty durable anymore, but adjustment screws and the like can still rust on you. I like to get my gear home after a hunt in the rain and I wipe it down real well and apply a light coat of oil on my screws and such. Scbasshunter
Bow care after rain. What kind of oil do you use? Should I do anything to the cams?
WStreblo
Bow care after rain. Your cams are coated pretty well as is most everything in your bow. It's the screws you use an Allen wrench on that ends up rusting due to the coating getting worn off. I use regular rem oil from a cleaning kit. Like I said I just use a light coating
WStreblo
Bow care after rain. I also use canned air to blow any moisture out of cracks and crevices
Trevor
After I hunt in the rain I use compressed air to blow dry my bow. I get In around the cams and all the screws to get all the moisture off and then wax the strings and cables. You don't need a lot of pressure and be careful around your sight pins. smha6784
Bow care after rain. Rain ? Y'all don't use a hose to clean your bows off after a long day of shooting? I didn't think water hurt a bow? Man... I thought it was the humidity making my bow rust and creek and crack sounds. The guy I bought my bow from said just use a water hose to clean it after shooting and wax string once a month cause the moisture from hose should keep it lubed up. You guys are just messing around like the snipe hunting thread huh ???

redkneck
Mine gets rode hard and put up wet lol. I've never "cleaned" my bow. All stainless/aluminum/composites, don't know what there is to get damaged by a little water.
dbHunterNY
bows are pretty resilient but I still dry mine off. can of air works good. it's good to keep your string waxed all the time. not necessarily to work it in though. just a light coating on the outside will do. doesn't take much. everything is sealed but at the ends of your cam axles it's good to put a tiny dab of wax. it'll keep water out of there. Q-tip works well to get the screws a thin coat of rust preventive oil. I use the same stuff as on my guns (Hoppe's Elite T3). How much of this all depends on how nasty the weather is. Most of the time I hunt in a blind during rains and all I have to do is dry my bow off from the little that got on it.
Rhino
I basically do the same thing WStreblo does except I may break out the hair dryer for the cracks & crevices. If I don't do that, I'll set my bow on end in a corner (on carpet) & let it dry before applying the oil. I do have some unscented oil someone gave me a long time ago. Don't know where he got it. Wheels
I don't do much with mine, other that set it out to air dry. Yeah I got some rusty screws but nothing major. I'll say this though, don't put it in a case and forget about it. And if you shoot a fall away rest that would probably need some attention. Maine Hntr
Mine gets rode hard and put up wet lol. I've never "cleaned" my bow. All stainless/aluminum/composites, don't know what there is to get damaged by a little water. Agreed, bows are pretty resillient now a days and they're pretty "weatherproof", i've had mine out plenty of times in rain and don't notice any rusty screws or anything, stainless, aluminum, composites... = great!
