wtnhunt Posted August 12, 2013 Report Share Posted August 12, 2013 Anyone have any tips for keeping turkeys from wiping out a freshly planted plot? Will be planting peas and wheat in the next week or so. Last year the turkeys wiped out the wheat I planted along some edges late in the summer. Crows have been an issue with planting as well but they are not as bad as the turkeys. Crows are fair game here right now, but turkeys are not. Seems to be some mixed reviews on how well it works for geese. Dunno how that might impact deer movement around the area though, archery here opens the 4th Saturday of Sept. Got plenty of cabelas points. Wal mart has the freaky eyed owls for about $20, but don't know if one of them on a t post would help with the turkeys. redkneck Posted August 13, 2013 Report Share Posted August 13, 2013 I hate when its dry for weeks after we plant. Turkeys sure can wreak havoc on seed for sure and young plants too. I also hate them around me bowhunting. I love to watch them but they screw you up when you try to draw on a deer, they have eyes in the back of their head. They are all over our place right now, watched a nice longbeard and 6 hens for a long time this morning, the hens are probably still eating grasshoppers in our pasture. Come turkey season they will be down deep in the bottoms and we won't see much of them. I ordered a tripod gun rest that supports the entire gun--made by caldwell. Seems like i hunt out of pop up blinds now more than tree stands. Getting old--lol.
