Trevor
Last fall I bought a HSS vest and yesterday I was going through my gear and noticed an expiry tag on the vest. The tag says the vest expires in October making it five years old. It must have sat on the shelf for a long time. Do I worry about it or try and return it for a new one? Gotta cover theirselves in case. Materials do deteriorate over time especially when exposed to elements for extended periods. So long as it is not stored outside in direct sunlight or in the heat I personally would not be too worried about using it. Your lifeline type ropes will also have potential to deteriorate over time. FireStation46
Call HSS and tell them. Maybe with your receipt they would swap it out for you.
pruts
Call HSS and tell them. Maybe with your receipt they would swap it out for you. That's not a bad idea. If not our harnesses at work expire every 5 years as well, but we often use them a lot longer than that. Biggest thing I would look for is wear or damage like fraying and that sort of thing. Trevor
I was in the store today were I bought my vest and they had one on the shelf. I opened the package to check the date and it was built the same date as mine. So I think I will send HSS an email and see what they say. FireStation46
I met them today at Buckmaster's in Montgomery, Alabama. Nice guys. Next year I will replace my older HHS gear with new stuff. What I have is good to go but small expense o. Safety to have 'fresh' stuff
