Mossberg Model 500 Turkey

Recommended Posts

I have a friend who is interested in the Mossberg Model 500 Turkey (camo) shotgun in 12 gauge. He told me that it comes with fiber optic sights and an extended choke tube. He doesn't know the choke constriction.

Since I am not familiar with this particular gun, I am asking for comments from forum members who have knowledge of this shotgun.

He is not interested in the Model 835 or gun by any other manufacturer. So, please limit comments to the Model 500 Turkey. Thanks.

Re: Mossberg Model 500 Turkey

Its a Mossberg 500. They have been around for over 40 years and have faithfully served the military as defensive weapons, as well as many police, and thousands of hunters. The gun keeps on ticking. They are not the prettiest gun in the rack, but they are tough, functional shotguns.

Re: Mossberg Model 500 Turkey

Bought that gun last year and shot it with the factory extrafull turkey choke and downed a turkey at about 55 yards with one shot. I bought a tactical stock from cabelas which is a pistol grip stock which gives it a benelli feel to it. Handles great. I just bought a Tight wad primos choke and some hevishot and now Im ready. Buy t and you wont go wrong.

Re: Mossberg Model 500 Turkey

used to own one and it is like aj says very functional and a good old shotgun and i used to carry one now and then when i was in nam. i would suggest you go to a after market like the primos tight wad choke for mossberg and it is .655 which yours is probably a .700 plus or in that range and the tight wad makes it nice to shoot some number 6 shot. i wam using a 3 inch 2 oz double x mag turkey load in #6 shot and the groups form 30 out are unbelievable. i don't care what anyone says and i am new bennelli owner there is a soft spot in my heart that goes all the way back to nam and they they did their job without complaint and no matter how dirty she got she put the lead out

good luck
