Scbasshunter
I'll be back in a tree today in a few hours. Nice rub right by the pile of corn that was put out for me. Had to put a climber out to play the wind but hopefully get out early enough to climb slowly and not be drenched in sweat.

Scbasshunter
Back in a tree today. Saw 8 bucks. Shot an 8pt in velvet. Followed blood for about 300 yards into the swamp but never found him. Kind of takes the hunting wind out of me.
smha6784
Back in a tree today. Well that's good and bad.... Are you going to try And pick up the trail again tomorrow ??
whitetailfreak55
Did you see where you hit him at for sure? I'd go get a few buddies tomorrow and grid search that swamp. Good luck and let us know how it goes
whitetailfreak55
How long did you let him lay after the shot? If you hit him a little far back and took up the trail to soon you could've pushed him a little. I would definitely go back tomorrow. If its legal and you know someone that has a blood trailing dog that could be another option.
Scbasshunter
Back in a tree today. I hit him in the neck. He was quartered to me. I waited about an hour before I started looking. I don't too much care to go wandering around the swamps by myself, especially since I am the only one here and don't have good if any cell service out there. whitetailfreak55
My buddy shot a deer in the neck a couple years ago and couldn't find barely any blood for first few hundred yards. He left him over night and came back the next day to where he left off and he said he took a few steps and it looked like somebody dumped a 5 gallon bucket of red paint on the ground and ended up finding his deer. The blood was running down the bucks throat hence hardly any blood. But when he put his head down it all ran out. Like I said earlier grab some buddies and grid search that swamp. You'll find him. Look down hill and on heavy trails and look for blood. Don't give up he might be 20 yards from where you stopped looking. Good luck
Scbasshunter
Back in a tree today. Oh, I forgot to mention, I watched my lumenock sail right over the back of a buck about 20 minutes before I shot that one.
hoosierhunter
Back in a tree today. Hope you get him but your going to need some serious luck on a neck hit. Unless you clipped the jugular(which is nearly impossible if he went 300 yards) you don't have any other vitals to hit. I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news but you gotta let that deer walk next time. Just a extremely poor shot selection with a bow quartering to. I know it's really exciting to see bucks but you have to make good decisions when taking a shot. You already know this, but its our job as hunters to make the quickest kill possible and that equals directly broadside or quartering away with a bow at a distance your comfortable with. How far was he and how much quartering to? Did the arrow have a chance to get into his body? How much penetration? How did he react to the hit? How much blood? What broadhead? Scbasshunter
Back in a tree today. There is nobody else around here and to be honest I don't really feel comfortable walking around the swamp by myself.
whitetailfreak55
Don't get discouraged. I found my buck last year after a 400 yard search. He walked down the middle of the crick so no blood trail. Try to stay motivated, it'd hard to do in those situations but you owe it to yourself and the animal. hoosierhunter
Back in a tree today. Can you describe exactly where you hit him in the neck in relation to the shot angle?
Scbasshunter
Back in a tree today. About 20 yds away. It went about half of the arrow in. Grim reaper razor tip. It must have hit 1 lung because we found lung blood and frothy foamy blood.
hoosierhunter
Back in a tree today. How much was he quartering to? Based on what you saw where would an exit wound be if it would have passed through?
Scbasshunter
Back in a tree today. He was quartered to me not quite straight on. I watched a hunting show the other day and a guy had the exact same shot. I put it right where he did, it just didn't come out the side. whitetailfreak55
Like Pat said a quartering to shot with a bow should be a pass. But if you did only hit one lung, that deer can go for awhile. How hard of an angle was he?
Scbasshunter
Back in a tree today. Pretty hard angle. It should have come out the back side of the opposite side rib cage. The way we followed him it looked as though he was going in a big circle.
hoosierhunter
Back in a tree today. Did you find the arrow? If the arrow got half way in its a single lung hit and he wasnt dead when you went after him. The frothy blood could be from an esophagus hit or single lung. I unfortunately lost two single lung hit does last year. Both deer went over 600 yards before I lost the blood trail and both were pass thru hits.
