whitetailfreak55
Was he headed back to where he came from? Man thats a hard angle. You about would've had to take out his shoulder. But what you're saying is you hit him right above the brisket in the base of the neck correct?
Scbasshunter
Back in a tree today. We found the arrow about half way through the search.
whitetailfreak55
What color was the blood? Pink?
Scbasshunter
Back in a tree today. Yes. It does seem like he was circling. I'll probably go look around where they came from before I shot him. I just don't have it in me after this to find another spot to hunt and climb in 90+ degree temps. I would hunt that stand again but I'm sure that spot is busted for at least a week.
hoosierhunter
Was this where you hit him?
whitetailfreak55
Check the bedding area tomorrow. And all trails leading to the bedding area
Scbasshunter
Back in a tree today. Can't see the picture in my phone. It was his right side of his neck a couple inches above his shoulder, not quite straight on.
hoosierhunter
Back in a tree today. Did the arrow break off? How far was blood up the shaft?
Scbasshunter
Back in a tree today. The arrow did not break. By the time we found the arrow there was blood from one end to the other.
hoosierhunter
Back in a tree today. Did you lose blood or back out?
Scbasshunter
Back in a tree today. Lost blood. The last drop we found was a drop about the size of a quarter along of a drop of foamy blood about the same size.
smha6784
Back in a tree today. Both hoosierhunter and whitetailfreak55 are giving great advise. You owe it to the animal and yourself to look again.
hoosierhunter
Back in a tree today. Well he's hurting and probably getting very thirsty from blood loss. He could still go quite a distance with one lung. I'd bet on him going at least another 150-300 since you went after him so soon. Just look again in the morning, you might get lucky.... whitetailfreak55
Go to the last drop of blood and slowly make circles looking for blood. Make bigger circles till you pick up more blood. That deer should be piled up somewhere if you hit a lung. You'll find him. Let us know
Scbasshunter
Back in a tree today. Never found him. On top of that, I can only shoot 1 buck per season and that counts, so does only for me for now on which means I can't hunt again until Sept 15. Also, the $8 lighted nock on the arrow was broken when I found it.
whitetailfreak55
Find any blood? Or anything? Where all did you check?
Scbasshunter
Back in a tree today. Didn't find anymore blood. He must have gotten in the creek and clotted it up.
hoytshooter09
I would go out in the next couple of days and listen for any kind of crows or vultures that found him could still save the rack maybe. I going a buck like that a couple of years ago.
whitetailfreak55
I would follow that crick and walk up trails that lead out of the crick. Thats how I found my buck last year. Thats to bad sorry to hear that
WStreblo
Back in a tree today. Anyone you know got a good hound? Be amazed how many dead deer get sniffed out with a good dog... Just a thought
Scbasshunter
Back in a tree today. Already tried a dog. Didn't work. Cut my losses and will get back out there when does are in season.
Turkeygirl
Everyone makes bad shots...BUT I hope you learn from this experience....If you are going to hunt, you owe it to the animal that if the shot isn't ideal, don't take it....and if you make a bad shot, make an attempt to recover it...Yeah I sympathize some you don't want to wander around a swamp by yourself, I might be leery as well but if you are going to hunt, time to get over that fear, deer are going to take you through some rough country, especially if it's wounded. wtnhunt
He was quartered to me not quite straight on. I watched a hunting show the other day and a guy had the exact same shot. I put it right where he did, it just didn't come out the side. Perfect example of what I DO NOT like about some hunting shows. They get lucky sometimes and recover deer on poor shot selections, sure they do not air the footage on animals they take bad shots on that they do not find. Do not take bad shots because you saw someone else get away with it, never a good idea.
redkneck
Man I will do anything to avoid a quartering to shot. I hate that angle. Give me quartering away at 25 yards all day long if I can get it.
