Who all is getting ready..

Getting ready Tim? Ready is more like it! Not sure if I'll be in MO for the opener on 9/15 yet or not. If not, it will be within a few days after that.

Still got some food plots to plant but we have enough treestands & ground blinds set & ready to hunt now when the season opens. 29 including ground blinds. Keeping some stands in reserve though so we're able to set some in a hurry when and where we need to after the season opens.

waiting... have scouted a little bit but will really start scouting much more this next month. going to a 3D outdoor league every week. in 1st write now. tweaking the bow as this week we're allowed to use rangefinders but most distances would be out around 50 yards. treestands are set but may hang a few more depending on how scouting turns out. come bow season anything that comes into range will be in trouble. all that said the coolest thing... got a new Nikon that films in HD, camera tripod, and tree mount. wife has a new PSE that should be ready by season too. looking to film her first deer.

The Montana archery opener is the 7th of Sept. this year (usually Labor Day weekend) and the elk are already bugling in the predawn hours. Deer hunting is a back burner sort of thing for me during the archery season, but this year I do have my eyes on a couple old bucks that showed up on a remote trail cam. My hunting preparation consists mostly of a lot of hiking the mountains in an effort to keep my 60 year old legs up to the task. The shooting part is a check of all equipment to make sure it is up to par, as 50+ years of launching arrows and bullets has made shooting mostly a reflex action. My hunting here in the northwest corner of the state takes place miles from the nearest agriculture fields and although I have trail cams out (which have to be retrieved prior to the season starting) there is very little patterning of deer or elk movements. The elk will be where you find them (the wolves have a large influence on that) and the deer have no set patterns, with core areas covering square miles. So, preparation is a lot of hiking. I would put my old legs and ability to get a critter out of the mountains up against any of the "young bucks" in the forum.

Life is so fast paced now. I used to be methodical in how I prepared for the archery opener. Now I buy my license the couple days before instead of months. I don't even have my clothes washed and ready. Way, way behind. Too much family and squad stuff going all the time!!

But boy do I have the itch. Some decent 3 1/2 on camera. The itch is the worst when you can't scratch it.
