Sunday Hunting

Due to work, the only days I get to hunt is the weekend. Long drive to the property, plus only getting to hunt every other weekend, Sundays are fair game for me. Plus, that's my quiet/reflecting time. I might not see a deer, but it's something soothing for the soul. No cell phones, no work, no wife, no kids (for the most part), just me and mother nature, 1 on 1. Church isn't for everybody, sometimes the deerwoods and the calmness is all someone needs to get their soul clean!

Don't see any reason why a person should not be allowed to hunt on Sunday, some states do not allow it though.

What better place to reflect on creation than taking in what God gave us. Going to a building and thinking about hunting rather than being focused on a message does not do a person any good in my opinion anyway. Last season I was able to make it to church most Sundays, pretty fortunate to be able to hunt walking distance away from the house and our service is not until 11 am.

I'm usually in church Sunday morning, but I do my share of Sunday afternoon hunts as well.

You can take things to any extreme, my grandmother would cook Sunday dinner on Saturday and just heat it up Sunday because she said you shouldn't work on Sunday lol. I guess heating up food is different than cooking lol.

I heard the preacher talk about how we shouldn't eat at restaurants or buy gas on Sunday so folks in those businesses didn't have to work. I wanted to tell him how about turning off the AC in the church so the folks at the power company could take off too. You'd see some fat baptists leaving some pews pretty quick if that happened lol.

I try to take things in stride and moderation, if you try to follow the letter of the law in the Bible you'll find yourself falling short on things a lot.

Just my two cents.

I do not see a problem with Sunday hunting, or doing what ever has to be done that day. It's where your Heart is that matters, that's between you and the Lord.

Even the Pharisees looked down on Jesus because they picked grain and ate on the Sabath.

1At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples became hungry and began to pick the heads of grain and eat.2But when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, "Look, Your disciples do what is not lawful to do on a Sabbath."…

Yours too huh. I missed the sermon, but evidently last week out preacher got on the same kick. We have a doctor in our congregation that makes rounds on Sundays. Wonder how that hits him and other health caregivers who work Sundays?

Got to think that the heavy set preacher sitting on heart attack ready who ends up in the ER on a Sunday is going to be very thankful that there are some dedicated Christians who do work on Sunday. Might change perspectives a bit? It is all about where your heart is, not where your body is. I am not encouraging not going to church by any means at all but like I said above, if you go to church with no interest in what is being spoken what good is it really.

How often do church congregations have dinners on Sundays, I know ours does and there are always people having to do some sort of "work" related to setup and cleanup, let alone the cooking.

Yep, Christina and I talked about this the other day. Her Sunday school teacher said it is a shame she works on Sundays that NO one should work Sundays. Christina said she replied that Jesus even worked on Sunday. If you take the Old Testament as it reads in the King James version, Jesus broke the ten commandments where it reads that thou shalt not work on the Sabbath in the fourth commandment. To my understanding Jesus also healed on the Sabbath.

I hunt Mass and Maine and both are no Sunday hunting states, I grew up that way so i'm used to it however as I get older and work 5+ days a week I look forward to those Saturday mornings and find myself wishing Sunday was an option for hunting as well... I also think it gives me a day in which I can spend with the wife and kids and get stuff done around the house without feeling I could be out in the woods so it's a catch 22 really.

I see no harm in it. I agree with redkneck and wtnhunt. If I hunt on Sunday its when I'm in Colorado otherwise when I'm at home, I'll be in church both services on Sunday but that's me.

As far as not working on Sunday..... most people fail to realize that Sunday is the first day of the week....not the last and its not the Sabbath.

To each his own but I'll be up in a tree or in a blind on any day of the week when the season is open. I can pray and have my time with God while enjoying the peacefulness of the outdoors just as easily as being inside a church and I'll do it any day of the week. JMO but it's easy to feel closer to God when I'm relaxing in a tree or blind & taking in the wonders of nature he's provided for us.

I'll admit I've not attended church in a while. yet I consider myself a "God fearing man". I've no vacation days left so this hunting season if I took away Sundays I'd cut my hunting season in half, only leaving Saturdays. if He told me to "Rise... Kill and eat." don't imagine it'd be much of a difference if it's a Sunday or not.

Let the hunter choose - not politicians or Old Testament religion. One of the worst laws out there in my opinion. As far as not working on Sunday - what happens to the people on ventilators and heart pumps if healthcare providers take off work? The New Testament is where it's at! Model our lives after Jesus and as others have said - Jesus himself worked on the Sabbath.
