When you fall off....

your horse and you haven't ridden in awhile and you've never had a bad fall before, good luck getting back on right away...well talk about pain!:jaw: Worked my horse yesterday, tacked him up to work him more, get on and start up the hill to the flat area I work on and he stopped, nudged him with my heels and he decided to jump and spin on the side of this heel then buck and off I went before I could do anything, right onto my lower back and left hip on the hard ground on the side of a hill. Went in to urgent care because of the pain - muscle spasms and such. X-rays were ok the PA said, gave me a couple scripts. The meds definitely help. This AM though really stiff and sore and some new sore areas to. Trying to limber up and hopefully get to work tonight, might be a little slow. Tomorrow AM going to my chiropractor. Never had a bad fall like this before or pain. You know it's bad enough to make me go to a hospital as a patient, lol. Glad I had my helmet and let this be a not to you all whether on a horse or bike or atv, etc...always wear a helmet! I landed on my back first so it saved my head from hitting hard.

Too bad about your fall and too bad it was not in the sand, could have been worse though. Glad you did not hit any rocks and you are going to be ok.

Ground is pretty hard here now for sure, cannot imagine taking a hard fall at the condition I am in now with my back. Never wore a helmet on a horse ever Ruth. Only hit to the head I have ever had was when working a green broke horse that did not have his head tied down, he rared back and caught me in the ear and my ear bled pretty good. What falls I had for the most part were in Florida where the ground was pretty soft, cannot say as though I can recall ever hitting the ground off a horse here in Tennessee. Had a stallion rare and I stepped off out of the stirrups and luckily was able to get out clean, could have been a real bad situation, that was the closest I can recall to getting thrown here. That rotten horse broke my foot, was much more dangerous on the ground than when I was on his back. Been a long time since I have ridden though, my old gelding having to be put down really was the end of my interest in riding.
