We got pts boys!!..put a doe on the ground

Me with our little future hunter; Rage Chisle tip did it's job well...posing at our cooler, one doe hanging in the background, 3rd one on the floor. Geese are flying, rainy windy day, but were having fun!

Up on my lease land Sat eve. had this doe come in several times, but was very spooky..she would not stay long enough to give me a shot. One time I was at full draw, she stopped right in my shooting lane in front of the only 2" maple there, it was right in back of her shoulder crease, maybe could have threaded it in there broadside, but I let her walk. Off she headed out to the field with the 3 smaller bucks that came in with her..about an hour past and she comes in from the field back to the bait, I get ready and draw as she starts to clear the leaf canopy..quartering away, I settle the pin on her last rib and touch the release. She kicks and all I seen was a brown streak heading away from the field, hear the arrow clicking as she heads deeper into the woodlot..I got down and found blood and make a circle around to where i last saw her, as light is fading fast...I come across the blood trail and get out my led flashlight, and start tracking about 100 yards out from the stand..go about 15 yards and find my arrow, pools of blood every few feet, and there she is. I tag her get oput my Glenn's Deer Handle and slowly drag her back to the field..5 stops, and sweat soaked... and a half hour later, I'm loading her up and heading back to camp.

Congratulations Martin...WTG!

Slow for me yesterday afternoon hunting oaks. Saw 2 deer but have no clue what they were. My buddy wacked a young doe in a corn field pinch point in the misty rain we had. Nice easy tacking job & short drag. It was a tough day for choosing where to hunt with a wind that changed 180 degrees during the afternoon. That limits options when you have to choose a stand that allows you to get away with that many different wind directions.

Wind directions are not good for where I'd like to be putting my time in right now. That's hunting though. If I can't hunt those spots during this short 3 day hunting trip, I should when I return the end of next week for a 7 or so day hunt.

Back from the 1st short trip to MO. A little on the slow for me deer sightings wise. Great start to getting our does out of the way for my buddy. He killed 2 & I didn't see one the 1st 2 days. He also saw a lot of deer. Just wasn't my time. Tuesday afternoon we both were in buck hunt only mode since we had to clean up the lodge that evening & head home early Wed. morning. Yep...had a doe all around me inside the 15 yard line for ~10 min. that afternoon. Figures. We both saw some young bucks. Mature bucks were laying low. Heading back to MO next Wed. for a longer haul. I'll have 10 days to do some damage. May have to buy more doe tags...I only have 2 right now.

BTW...like the name.

Obviously...Martin & I have both started our seasons. I know Martin's deer heard is not what it used to be thanks to wolf introductions. My prospects look pretty good so far from our trial cam runs. Like past years, I suspect we'll find a lot more after we start moving the cams to scrapes. Scrapping just started cranking up in Missouri.

So with all that said...when will the rest of y'all crank up your hunting?

Also...got anything on trial cams or seen on your turf you're fired up to hunt?

With scraping cranking up soon up there, if not already, I hope some surprises show up for you Martin. Bummer knowing not too long ago your prospects looked good going into each season, then see it turn the way it has for you the past few years.

We have ~42 ac. that came out of CRP this past spring. We were too late finishing pulling trees out of it to get those 2 fields planted in beans this summer. Now we're share cropping those fields with the farmer planting winter wheat. Hope he plants it soon. We kept some turnip seed in reserve to add a little extra draw to some edges & corners around there for the late season too.
