Sat Friday eve, got in stand at 5 pm. At 6 pm a 6pt with no brows and a small fork walks in...at 6:15 I see a big body deer cross a cut lane 80 yards out, and is heading towards me. He stops out at 40 yards to look and listen, the two little bucks see him and they get all charged up and start clicking antlers and this brings the 8pt right in. He steps behind a balsam, and I come to full draw as he will be walking from right to left and be broadside at 10 yards..he steps out, I settle the pin right behind his shoulder and sqease the release....THWACK!! the four blade muzzy eats him up! He runs 40 yards out the way he came in and stops and looks back...he is doing the fast "sideways tail flicker", sure sign of a mortally wounded deer...he starts walking off slowly, I sat in my stand for about 20 minutes to give him some time... get down and walk back to gator and get a flashlight, come back to where he stopped and right away, I got good blood, I mean somebody pulled the drainplug kinda blood trail!! I figured he's gonna be right here...then the blood almost goes to nothing...then a huge puddle..shoot I've jumped him... cant tell which way he went...I hang my HSS vest orange side out, on a tree and back out.., dont want to jump him again. Come back in the a.m. and I see a trail that splits, I head out directly ahead, no blood trail now, as we had some rain overnight, nothing...I go left and 20 yards there he is...only thing a bear,(which was on cam), overnight, had found him and took a bit of the hind quarter and opened up my entrance hole and ate the innards...I know its not the biggest buck, but this is the best Ive seen all fall, the buck I let go last year was much bigger than this one, and he is nowhere to be found. Im not going to have much time to sit, as crops are not out yet up here, and I'm going to be very busy soon. A bird in hand as I see it.

Go Team!!

Well guys, this is the first time in Nova Scotia history that we are allowed to harvest two deer. We are allowed one with a crossbow, bow or muzzel loader ( which ever you prefer to use ) and one with a rifle.

I took a small 6 pointer with a muzzell loader on thursday. I won't post a pic to be entered until I can see if I can upgrade with my 300 WSM. Rifle season opened yesterday.

I saw a nice eight point but he was a little too far for a shot on the first day of rifle season ( yesterday ), I then let a smaller eight point walk by my stand, I videded him instead of shooting. Today I checked my cam and have another very nice eight on it, not the one I mentioned above. I am heading back to camp tomorrow night for a week or maybe two .......... all according to how much hassel my wife gives me hahaha.

Appears we're on the verge of the rut breaking loose here in MO. Seen a couple of shooters hunting cut bean fields but way to far off. Tried the buck decoy yesterday to try to coax one in close enough. Worked on a smaller buck but not either one of the big ones I saw. Rain the next 2 days so we'll probably be hunting blinds till it blows through.

Good luck and enjoy the hunts with the kids:)

thanks..Slash did good this eve..sure he will be posting pics soon

Again, weekend went way too fast...with all the rain, my trails are mushy ruts from the wheelers, we're wore out from being guide and baby sitter..tried to have Breylen out with us as much as possible, checking cams, moving ladder stand for Ash..then having her practice from it...following blood trail..he's gonna be good, think he is part bloodhound!...got a decent buck in the cooler, had a great time.

Great Martin...Family affair.

Still pre-rut stuff here in MO. Had a nice mature mid 150's 10 point working scrapes near me the 1st morning after 2 1/2 days of rain. Grunted him in to 15 yards but he was facing me and behind a tree trunk. No shot opportunity. Looked around for ~5 minutes then turned & walked straight away. Tried calling him back. When that didn't work tried rattling. He didn't come back but a 3.5 year old 10 came in from a different direction to the rattling. Not big enough but nice to see one respond to rattling and come to the 10 yard line. Rattled in a couple of smaller bucks later that morning.

Yesterday set a stand with the help of a young friend of mine hunting with me this past week where I'd seen a 12 point mature target buck twice during the past week. The same one I've posted trial cam pics of in the video & photo forum. He was working one side of a cut bean field. Told my young buddy to go get him. 1st deer to show up was that target buck. Gave him a 10 yard shot. Dead deer! it's the first buck he's ever killed with his bow. One brow tine was broken off since the last trial cam pic about a week ago but the buck still gross scored 157 as an 11 point. Made my week! Been trying for ~5 or 6 years to get this guy a crack at a big one with any weapon. I'll post pics and a detailed story in the bowunting forum when I get home. I'll just say...it was a challenging recovery. Heading home 1st thing in the morning but I'll return next Sunday for 10 to 12 days of bowhunting. By then, rutting action should be right.

Glad to hear you guys are starting to see some action! Sorry for my absence over the past couple weeks.... my son was born on Oct. 15th and it has been a pretty hectic start to the 2013 season. I am still planning on making it to the stand several times during rifle season, but my bow season has pretty much been eliminated. Good luck to all and hopefully later in November I can help add to the point total!!

Hard to beat the feeling of seeing a big smile on a young boy's face like that.

Heading back to MO Sunday. My son is going to join me Monday evening & hunt through Thursday afternoon. I'll be up there till Friday the 22nd. Taking my rifle just in case I get the urge to take it to the woods when the MO rifle season opens on Nov. 16th. If I bag a good one before the rifle season opens I'll probably stick with the bow.

Checking in...I'm still in MO. Gun season opened this morning but warm and very windy. Supposed to have rain moving in real soon with good chance of rain through midday Sunday. I'll be here through most of next week. Now I'll at least have a chance to reach out & touch one.

Saw a great 8 point this past week...150 class but he never got inside 60 yards. Had a 155 class 10 point coming in while hunting a cut bean field a couple of days ago but a couple of does messed it up. They began blowing at something just inside the timber N of me. The 10 point put on the breaks at 68 yards and decided the blowing does knew something was wrong. He decided to trot off to the NW.

My son joined us for 3 days of bowhunting during the week and bagged a doe Thursday afternoon. It's only the 2nd deer he's killed bowhunting. Made my day!
