Was finally able to get out this past weekend for a "real" hunt. Didn't see anything, but it was nice to get out. Drove around Saturday evening for about 30-35 minutes before dark and saw 37 deer, but nothing with antlers, not even any 1.5 yr olds. Seems to be the common theme in our hunting area back home.

Seeing a lot of big deer being killed during our blackpowder season. Friend of mine shot a 150 class opening morning.

The overnight temps are still in the 50's and we're having a lot of rain, so maybe there will be more wallhangers making it through blackpowder season than normal. The rut normally starts up the first couple of weeks in November and I'll being in the stand for several all day sits then. Got fingers crossed that I at least see one of the big boys on their feet and still breathing.

Last weekend of blackpowder. I hunted a new spot on a creek crossing between three thickets last night but didn't see anything. I knew the temps were gonna get close to freezing last night and with the wind perfect for that spot, I left my stand overnight. Got on stand before daylight this morning and had an owl fly through right before sunrise. Fifteen minutes after legal shooting light, a 120 class eight point walked down the trail 10 yards from my stand. With me only having one buck tag left, I just filmed him. An hour later, a smaller 8 point made his way behind me. A few minutes later, three otters jumped in the creek under my stand and began playing and feeding. Got them on film as well. At 9:30, a lone doe made her way under my stand and across the creek. Kept hoping that she had a big one following her, but she didn't. Got down at 10:00 and now I'm watching football before I head back out at 2:00. Sorry for the long paragraph, but for some reason I can't hit return from my laptop on this forum??? My two week vacation is off to a great start!
