Got in stand at 11:30 for half day hunt. Wind was blowing about 15 mph and it was COLD. I got down at 1 and walked back to my truck to get my face mask before my face chapped too much. At 3, a nice 8 point made his way behind me and bedded down 80 yards from my stand. I watched him for an hour and he finally got up and fed off away from me. 20 minutes before dark, I catch a large bodied deer crossing a lane about 100 yards from me. As I'm watching to see which direction it was headed, a smaller bodied deer crossed in the same spot. Suddenly the smaller bodied deer bounded off, tail in the air. That's when I heard the grunting. I watched intently knowing that I was seeing my first chase of the year. Then the big boy stepped out directly in the lane. I couldn't see his rack, but he had the body of a cow! Easily 200 lbs on hoof. I waited until I thought they were gone before I got down, but on my way out, ended up bumping them in the dark. Gonna sneak back in there in the morning but I doubt I see him again. One of, if not the biggest bodied buck I've ever seen!

Seems like everyone has been getting in some good hunting. I've been busy here with work, getting ready for winter and a little hunting. Have not seen the big one yet and there has been no sign of the rut. We have had some snow each day (1" to 2") and I have not seen a whole lot of tracks. Actually, I have seen more predator tracks than anything. A lot of coyotes, bobcats, lions and wolves, along with one bear track. I have to work the next three days and then will have eleven days in a row to hopefully catch up with a big buck. Good hunting to all.

Our gun opener is 1 week from today. I'm off the 15th through the 25th of this month. I'll be hunting 3 different counties that week and should be able to connect on something. I can't wait! The weather here looks horrible tomorrow as far as deer is concerned. 30mph wind gusts is not conducive to sitting in a tree. I'm planning on going goose hunting. The geese should work into a spread quite nicely with that type of weather. Good luck everyone.

Shot a doe last night. Smoked her at 35 yards. Had two more does come in and feed for 45 minutes. A shooter 10 point snuck in behind me and ran them off before I could get a shot at him. After an hour and 15 minutes, I get down to track the doe and the coyotes had already found her. I'll try to upload a pic later this week. Only saw two does this morning but headed back out in about an hour. I've got one more week of vacation left. Hope to get a wallhanger before Monday.

My dad call me around lunch time today and said the deer have really been moving the past few days. Lucky him as he has the rest of the month off work for vacation time. I'll be packing up the kids and heading back to to our hunting area tomorrow after work. They're calling for temps nearing 70 and rain all weekend though.

I have to put my hunting to a stop for right now. We had a EF-3 tornado go through our part of our county last night. Fire department has been out there since the start. Don't know when I'll be able to get out again. It's a crazy mess right now. I pray I can get out a morning sometime this weekend for the firearm season. But its not looking good..

Prayers for everyone affected by the tornado. Being from Oklahoma, we know the devastation tornados can have on a small town.

Hey all I've been away for a week or so upstate deer hunting. Had friends from Texas, North Carolina and Georgia here in the state for the week to do some deer hunting. Opening day of our gun season was this past Saturday. It's been slow all week until yesterday morning. My dad and I doubled up on bucks. I shot a broken G3 7pt and he shot a basket rack 6pt. I shot mine around 7:10am and he shot his around 8:30am. We were hunting in Broome County, NY in my friends hometown. The friend from Georgia. Everyone was there though.

Congrats on the deer Joe!

I haven't been in the woods for over a week. My business partner took off Wednesday morning and shot a 140 class buck with his bow. Awesome deer.

Our rifle season starts tomorrow and I'll be in the tree with bow in my hand. I've got four more tags to fill and I want to get as many in the freezer as I can.

Good luck to everyone still in the woods!

BTW--I'm pretty sure we just lost our lead. I think the team that's tied with us has a buck or two that hasn't been checked in.

Our gun season opens tomorrow as well. Will be a high of 20F with 25mph gusts. Single digits overnight into Sunday morning. I guess that will separate the men from the boys, hehe.

It will likely be slim pickins as there have been no good bucks on camera all year on the family property. But with all the lead that flies around, wounded deer are generally limping around later on.

Nice deer there Joe.

I made it out twice this weekend. Had a doe bed under me and then had a spike walk in front of me. Then on the 2nd sit saw a 4 point. Could have shot a t one of them. Was kind waiting til a big boy stepped out. But it never happened. So the next gun season, Whatever comes in first is DEAD I need meat. Still really busy down in brookport. So that's where most of my time is spent.

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. Well, the season came to a close here Sunday, with freezing ran, and unfortunately the big buck I was looking for never crossed paths with me. I did pass on a half dozen small bucks, but never did get a good look at a mature one. I did have a lot of lost time due to hyperextending my left knee which has resulted in a fair amount of swelling and loss of ability to go up or down hill. The damage has yet to be determined, but hopefully it will heal and not need surgery. On a different note, I also had to buy a new computer and this is the first time I have been online in weeks. I have determined that Windows 8/8.1 is not all that user friendly, but once one gets pass the learning curve it may not be that bad.

Good luck to everyone still out there hunting.
