dbHunterNY
lot of lead was flying thru the air and a lot of little bucks died with the opening weekend of rifle season, this past weekend. didn't see anything big enough. just a spike and a 4 pointer. all the bucks that were known to be around have gotten shot... hopefully something else bigger moves in but with so many doe around we'll have to wait and see. dbHunterNY
cold front has come in. last evening at last light I had a good buck crossing an ag field at 350 yards. I was covered up with deer. by the time I managed to sneek and close the distance to just under 300 yards it was gone into the timber and then I was out of light. probably go out again this afternoon but it's 30 mph winds and single digit temps. hopefully I last. dbHunterNY
well it was c-c-ccold out this evening getting down to zero with the wind chill. didn't see the shooter, didn't actually see a buck just 11 doe. they all came out pretty much just before dark. better lucky next weekend for a buck... hopefully the temps will be a little more mild. dbHunterNY
hunted behind the house this morning. checked some scrape and rub lines for fresh activity, didn't look like much. saw where doe were yarded and bedding up. also found a big track in the snow on a downwind trail that runs along the brushy creek bottom. it looks like he was passing straight through to check for a hot doe. that track was real close to as wide as my 30-06 shell is long. thinking no doe gets that big and it had to be a 200 lb buck or so. gzilla45
I just got back from deer camp where I've been all week and didn't see a single deer. It's hard to believe that they all just disappeared like that but the predator sign has been high so I'm sure that had something to do with it. I'm hoping to get a doe in the antlerless only hunt here in a few weeks.
dbHunterNY
nothing with bone yet. tonight I thought I was onto a good one. it was 350+ yards away. got out of the blind and stalked to within range. it had no idea I was there. I watched it as it was feeding along and discovered it wasn't as big as I initially thought. I ended up giving it a pass. saw 25 deer after that and not a single buck. I've got two more weekends left before the end of the season so it looks like I may end up taking doe to fill the freezer. we'll see though. behind my house my standards are a bit less because I only own 10 acres and anything legal gets shot. RackBlaster
Hey team, tagged a doe this morning here in IL. Ive been seeing a lot of action these past few weeks , past up some nice bucks that I may regret, but seen some giants that are still out there. Just waiting for those cold temps to get here again . dbHunterNY
Going to be putting up some some Christmas stuff outside for the wife. I've only got two weekends left though so I'll be looking to fill the freezer now. if I see a good buck then it will fall.
snake3113
Bagged a big doe this morning...Went out to where my dad shot a doe yesterday...But nothing came into the pines to get out of the weather...Desided to move to another stand, that looks over a valley...Was only sitting there 15 minutes and here comes a heard of 12 deer down one side of the valley...They came thru the bottom to my right and stop out about 100 yds...Dropped the fourth in line with the trustly old 30-30...Snow was falling really hard....Great day... gzilla45
Well guys my season unofficially ended yesterday without anything to show for it. I was on a doe only hunt the last 4 days and only managed to see a spike buck. Oh well that's how the chips fall sometimes. Congrats on all the deer. dbHunterNY
checkin in... all season I held out for a good buck and didn't find one to make my heart race. I waited until this past weekend, which was the last two days of hunting for me. Took a deer both days, Saturday and Sunday, despite having the big snow storms roll into the northeast. The TC Prohunter muzzleloader filled the freezer again, but no big antlers to show. i'll try to post some doe pictures up when I have time to take them. They've been hanging, frozen solid with the low single digit temps and I haven't gotten around to processing them yet.
