Been 12 years now since that horrible day for our country. I know Adjam5 has been sharing pics with us but saw this slide show this morning showing One World Trade Center rising above the skyline. Remember to say a prayer today.

I was stationed in Texas on this day 12 years ago. Fresh out of high school, 18 year old country boy from Ohio.... Everything changed that day. I think that was the first day I had that massive onslaught of emotions, sadness, rage, fear, emptiness.

Many lost their lives that day while we watched it on tv, but heroes were also born that day as well. The passengers who fought back, the first responders who ran in head first knowing the danger but more concerned with who they could save, the wives and the husbands of those who were taken and their willingness to share the memories of the lost. I spend this day as I have the last 11 honoring those heroes.

Remember hearing the news coming across the radio that morning like it happened yesterday, first thought was it was some crazy joke on the radio show. I got home just before the second plane hit and put the news on to see what was going on only to be hit with the somber reality of what had just taken place.

On my way to a job site in a dump truck. My coworker looked over at me and said "Son this means war." I'll never forget how quiet that day was. Not one plane flew over (we were working near a small airport). We wrapped up our day early. None of us knew exactly what devastation had occurred. I'll never, never forget those images. Nor will I ever forgive those responsible.

I remember I had stopped at a salvage yard to pick up a bumper for my brother's little Ford ranger he had bent up. I was listening to the news on the radio and thought that some idiot had maybe flown his little cesna into one of the towers. The situation of course quickly went downhill from there. Who can ever forget that day? Can't even look at the clock when it hits 9:11 in the same way anymore.

And you know what? I did not think none in the least about the date until I saw this post, I mean I didn't listen to the news coming in or nothing, I was oblivious to it. I got up this morning and was grabbing a shirt out of the closet and I picked up this white T-shirt that actually memorializes the 9-11 attacks. I have never worn this shirt to work, honestly don't remember who gave it to me, it's just been in my closet for years apparently.

Just now put the two together when I looked at something on my shirt, I'm a little slow.
