wtnhunt
Seems mother nature has worked against us this year with the garden and getting any kind of plots in. Wanted to get the plot in early enough so it would be a draw for archery season but held off on planting until we had rain in the forecast. Had planned for planting a few days before I actually got the seed in the ground. Had the ground ready and ended up having rain move in well before it was forecast the morning I was going to plant, made a big mess of the loose soil. Ended up having to completely re work it. Guess the bright side is my seed did not get washed out with the flooding. Ruts are worse than the pics show. Wednesday was a week since this was planted, had not rained on the plot until yesterday afteroon, and that was just a little sprinkle. Saw germination just 2 days after rolling the seed in, rolled it into the damp soil with our little kubota bx tractor. Thankfully been humid enough to generate some moisture. Still need some rain. Turkeys have dusted in one spot and plucked a few peas out on the far edge. Planted wheat along with the pea mix. Will try to get some more pics in another week or so. wtnhunt
What peas did you plant William? A winter mix of frostmaster, winter whistler, and secada from http://www.productsforwildlifemanagement.com/store/products/wms-winter-pea-patch/, first time trying these. Broadcast in about 9 lbs of peas and about 15 lbs of wheat. Kept about a lb, figured I might plant a lb in our garden. Turkeys have hammered the new growth under my bowstand about where the tractor is parked. Need to move that yote decoy again, but don't know that they are paying attention to it anymore. Still in bad need of some rain. Clover plots looked great after the last good rain, limed, fertilized and mowed them, but looking pretty dry(burned up) on the edges now. redkneck
I've never planted those. We always mix in Austria winter peas in our plots, was considering doing an all pea plot this year. And yeah the Turkeys reek havoc on them.

These are supposed to be a better draw than the austrian winter peas, supposed to be sweeter. We'll see.

wtnhunt
Wheat has been hammered despite having the yote deke out and moving it around. Think it helped at first, but been turkeys in that back field every time I have gone back there and have several pics of them in the plot last week on the last pull from my camera in the corner. Going to try and get out this morning before it rains and throw some more wheat seed out. Bare spot was loaded with wheat last week. Third pic in the thread shows a lot of green in the same area that is completely gone now. Peas are taking off pretty good though. Deer tracks all around the edges of the plot. Snapped a shot of our smaller clover plot I planted last fall while I was back there yesterday. Rain we got Friday really helped it out. Tominator
So, basically, if I want to kill a turkey, all I have to do is get a yote suit and sit in a field?
wtnhunt
So, basically, if I want to kill a turkey, all I have to do is get a yote suit and sit in a field? Ummm well that might just work Chris. lol. That or sit in the loft with a bow. Freaking hens been within 10 yards of the house too many times to count. Been getting a group of about 20-25 of them back here for the past couple weeks, they come from our back field and then go back to the back again. There was another group about the same size out across our pasture at the same time.

wtnhunt
Managed to get some seed thrown out yesterday before it rained and it did rain quite a bit. Threw out another probably 5 lbs of wheat in the bare spot along with some of the state food plot mix I had leftover from last year. Should be more fresh green in there this weekend. Wife killed her buck last fall just off that clover plot while there was a doe and fawn in that plot, buck was making his way towards the doe. Plot looks much better this year, have had pretty good luck with the clovers attracting the does.
