Blade
I went archery hunting tonight with my dad. We went out and sat for about 5 hours. So I asked my dad if he wanted to play I-Spy because I was getting bored just sitting there. He said that he didn't feel like it and not 45 seconds later at 6:23 pm a big buck came in. I got on my knees to get a good shot. The deer started walking around nervously. He stood there looking at our blind but never knew what we were. Dad ranged him with a rangefinder and said he was 30 yards away. The most yards I've practiced at was 25 yards. Even he though he was only 5 yards out of my comfort zone I didn't want to take a shot and possibly miss or wound him. We've had pictures of him on our trail camera. Here is one of him... Swamphunter
very responsible---if the shot don't feel right don't take it. todd Blade made me very proud tonight... I know other adults that would have tried to take a deer by just "aiming high" and letting an arrow fly. I did not have to talk him out of it, he just knew he needed to pass..... I am SO PROUD of you son!

bowhunter97
No one can get mad because you werent comfortable with it. I could have killed atleast 1 more deer every year since i started bowhunting 4 years ago but have passed because i wasnt comfortable with it. I killed my first and only deer with a bow in 2011 so that would have made it 5 deer with a bow for me but oh well. It'll all pay off one day. WStreblo
Passed on a Buck Tonight You've learned at a young age what some seasoned hunters have not... Not only did you do the responsible thing you've shown a deep rooted respect for the animals you hunt by proving yourself to be an ethical hunter. Blade, you have laid down a line and will not cross it, sometimes you have to do that. Many see a buck, and self will is lost, all they can think of is hauling it around showing it off or by flinging an arrow, they will get lucky,...next thing you hear is, "I gut shot a deer and cant find it." that's something no hunter wants to go thru
Swamphunter
Well here the scoop. After hunting all morning, we came home and Blade and I set up the 3d deer target and recreated the shot. Blade even ran around the house to get his heart rate up and guess what? He made the shot... not just once, but time after time after time... So we went back to a regular bag target and set him up with a 30 yard pin to practice with for now. RangerClay
Good for you Blade! I passed on a doe Saturday morning because it was out of my comfort zone. Glad to hear that you showed good common sense. Now...... the way I look at this, you didn't get a shot this buck was because of your dad. If he had set-up the blind a month in advance and had brushed in the blind properly, that buck would have come in closer and you would be tagged out. Go give him a kick in the butt! Rhino
Glad you made the decision that was right for you. Great idea recreating the shot at home and then practicing shooting. Now you should have the confidence to make that shot next time. I'm betting you get another chance. Hang in there!!!
