JessicaRae
I am new to hunting in Florida and I know it is very different from everywhere else. Most places you stalk and hunt, it seems down here its mostly tree stands and blinds. I am looking for help and pointers if anyone is willing, I greatly appreciate it. JessicaRae
Just curious as to where in FL do Jessica and '97 hunt? I'm between Gainesville and Tallahassee. I have hunted in more or so Ocala and north. I live in Port Charlotte area, but I am looking to hunt anywhere in the state. I have been told that the deer are bigger farther north and in central part of the state. Right now I am just wanting to learn down here. We just got back from 2 weeks in CO and my husband had a successful bear hunt, I was able to shoot at a bear and a cow. With the cow I had a bow malfunction she walked up to me 20 yards away and was just standing there. The bear I didn't adjust enough for the decline in the mountain skimmed his back and had an arrow full of bear fur.
bowhunter97
Haha well down on our end we have more palms when you get into the northern part you have almost no palms and more oaks so it there is a difference in how you hunt each area. bowhunter97
In northern fl you can use the oaks as a food source where in southern fl it is harder to find the food like up north so its more of natural funnels. Also in Fl you are allowed to hunt over bait if you have been feeding atleast 6 months prior to when you hunt

bowhunter97
Haha i hunt public land. I'd say next year apply for quotas. There are also hunts in north florida that you pay the outfitter so a plot of land for 5 days and you can hunt it. They show you some good spots and let you set up and hunt. Im actually going on one the day after christmas. Its 500 bucks and its by southern arrowhead outfitters. They do hunts in ohio too. It is like a 90% shot opportunity on the first day. They only do 3 hunts a year though and its all archery. So there is almost no pressure seeing that all the hunts are almost a month almost a month apart. And there is hogs too. JessicaRae
That sounds like a great thing, I'll have to share that with the husband. I like archery way more than rifle but if I have the opportunity for either I'll take it. Hog hunting is always a blast.
