Nat'l Hunting and Fishing Day review Downstate NY event

We had a great day! A larger and more attended event than last years. The number of folks we had shoot bows was estimated at about 400! So many vendors came and the archery was the biggest draw at the event. Seems like a lot of parents were into shooting the bow this year. 5 dozen arrows were ready for the trash after last Saturday :).

NewYork Bowhunters also took in over $100 in donations for our annual youth camp. We had a donation bucket out and never asked. People just gave. We also made over 300 cane poles and came home with none. Local sporting goods stores donated bait, line, hooks and bobbers. You could not put a price on the amount of smiles that came away that day. You can ONLY imagine the misinformation that so many have regarding our sport being only 35 miles from the bastion of bunny huggers....NYC. The NYBow crew of 8 stepped up, shot bows with kids all day and gave straight talk about hunting and trapping.

It was once again a very rewarding day.

A pic of my oldest boy Joe at the event with a young gal shooting a bow.

Thanks guys...We like give back to the community. I teach my kids there is more joy in giving than getting.

Dan...here is NYB policy on the crossbow. Don't believe everything you read in NY Outdoor news.

NYB Crossbow Position

NYB gives back...Unlike the NY Crossbow coalition. We are the largest Bow hunting organization in NYS that has PAYING members! Not like the xbow coalition folks who can join for free online and are financed by x bow manufacturers looking to sell more product.

Not wearing hunter orange in bow season...Thank NYB...Oct 1st opener in S Zone...Thank NYB. The age to bow hunt in NYS lowered to 12 from 14....Thank NYB. Many in this state benefit from NYB's hard work. We are hardly anti new hunter and anti youth. Healthy able bodied hunters should shoot a hand drawn bow. Seniors over 65, youth up to 17 and veterans should be able to hunt with what ever they want( I went off the reservation with that one). NYB has taught over 800 kids archery and hunter ed in our FREE youth camps! Archery to me is using a hand drawn bow in the presence of the animal. Otherwise point and shoot is like a gun. Keep the crossbow where it belongs...In the superior weapon/ firearm season.
