fly
Bought two C-90i Moultrie 2013 Trail cams from Cabela's last week. Figured it was time to add something new. I have to take one back already as a button doesn't work. Cabela's is good though so I should have no problem exchanging. I was thinking of time lapse during the day and motion at night. It's looking over a field. Anyone have a recommendation on time laps during the day? A picture every 10 or 30 seconds? What about motion at night? One picture, 2, 3, or video? Not sure if a 5 or 10 second video would be best. Figured 10 second video would be the longest I would want but it does go longer. I have a 32GB SD card, but I'm sure the 8 AA batteries will be the limiting factor - not storage. It has a NO glow infrared feature I like - means someone walking by will not notice it easily. I could not tell pictures were being taken during the day or night. Any other advise is appreciated.
hoosierhunter
New to Trail Cams Fly Time lapse should be 1 pic per min at the fastest rate. 1 pic every 10 seconds will be way too many pictures. I rarely use TL mode and only for a 5 day period then I reset the camera. I would set the camera not on time lapse but on motion. Set it to take 1 pictures with the shortest delay per picture possible. This is a trail monitoring type of mode. The idea now is that a deer won't stand in front if the camera like he would at a mineral station so there is a very short time frame for pictures. I would recommend creating a mock scrape for one camera and a major pinch point for the other. Make sure you are detailed about where you put that scrape because it makes literally all the difference in what you get pics of. The idea is to get does using it then the bucks will always be there checking it.
hoosierhunter
New to Trail Cams Video mode is awesome on scrapes! I'd set 10-20 second video . Edited October 2, 2013 by hoosierhunter
Maine Hntr
I've only had cams now for a couple years, have mainly used the motion feature... Pretty cool to set up a couple or few of them and you can begin to pattern where they are and when they're there, check times, moon phases etc. and really begin to game plan. I'm just starting to do that this year for the first time with info from the cameras.
wtnhunt
Some moultrie cams have the plot watcher, it can be set to watch a plot so long after sunrise and so long before sunset and then go into pir trigger mode after dark. Might be a consideration Frank. I would set your camera to take as many pics as possible and get a large card. Reason why is this, http://www.realtree.com/forums/photography-video/101857-people-ask-about-trail-cam-settings.html.
smha6784
New to Trail Cams I'm glad you guys brought up the time lapse mode. I used two of my cameras on time lapse last year on food plots and didn't get a single pic of a deer what gives? I love the video mode, seems to give better idea of direction deer are traveling and it's fun to watch.
WStreblo
New to Trail Cams I have a pic from a trail camera from years ago a doe walked in and I seen the light flash so I knew a pic was taken. I went full draw and the second that arrow hit her I seen the light go off and when I pulled the cam all you could see was a hole in her. The arrow set the camera off she was standing there gaping hole and all before she realized anything was wrong. I will try and find it and post it
fly
That would be quite a pic W, hope you find it. I tried the hybrid mode for 24 hours (like you suggested William). It took 2 pictures a minute from 4pm till 7pm. I thought it was on motion video from 7pm-6am but not one video during that time. Then at 6am till 7pm today 2 pics every minute again. Several birds showed up, but have still to get my first deer pic. The camera took almost 2000 pictures and used 2GB of space. My 32 GB card has plenty of space for at least a week and the battery life was higher than I expected at 89% (8 AA) energizer. Cabela's exchanged the bad one and I got the last one on the shelf! Amazing how fast they went - must have been 20 last week.
dbHunterNY
my next one will be a Bushnell Trophy Cam HD with time lapse. right now I've just got IR wild game innovations cams with no field scan mode or time lapse or whatever you'd like to call it. it'd really help to have that feature. dbHunterNY
another battery packs are worth it... I only run large battery packs on my cameras and they all paid for themselves a long time ago.
smha6784
my next one will be a Bushnell Trophy Cam HD with time lapse. right now I've just got IR wild game innovations cams with no field scan mode or time lapse or whatever you'd like to call it. it'd really help to have that feature. I use all wildgame innovations cameras, all of mine have time lapse feature. I bought them all from eBay and got GREAT deals on them. Some I paid less than $50 for NIB. Their time lapse feature has all kinds of options for the time lapse mode. And they will take pics during time lapse mode if pir is triggered. I have the Red6 and Micro 6 models. Turkeygirl
I use the photo taking mode on all my cameras - set for the highest or second highest number of photos it will take per trigger. I have 2 Spypoints - an IR5 which has been flawless and just got an I6 which is similar. They are a great cam for around $100. I also have 3 homebrews which are a little more $ but take great photos, I've had a couple issues here and there, they always try and fix em' for me. I usually have my cams set facing up/down a trail or where trails intersect or a scrape, etc, to get the most pics. Have fun, they are quite addicting. fly
FINALLY got a deer on cam. A doe in the field at 831am and another one (or same one) at 4:53pm and again at 5:37pm. Action is super slow because the corn is just now being harvested! Ground blind is set now I hope a deer shows this weekend for my son during the youth season! looks like a 7-11am hunt - lunch - and a 3-7pm hunt for Saturday. swhughes81
New to Trail Cams I just sent my primos back because it was overheating. It was an truth cam ultra 35. I went thru 3 sets of batteries no pics and each time they blew up brought it in put 7 batteries in it went to grab an 8th and when I came back to kitchen the camera was smoking! It was very hot and the Case melted. I've actually had a lot of problems with primos cameras and have returned everyone I've had (3) I'm done with them but this time around when I sent it back the primos tech gave me the address and it's being sent to bushnell. I guess they own or make the primos cameras? What's a good around 100 bucks or less camera brand to get. I have a wildgame innovations I got for 90 and it's been pretty good
