smha6784
I have never set up a mock scrape. How do you guys go about setting one up? What scents do you use? I read about pre- orbital gland scent used on mock scrapes. Why do you guys think??
WStreblo
mock scrape? Told you... Buy a Hoyt and the deer just go get in your truck! Hahaha I'm just hammering you. I've set up mock scrapes before and the biggest thing is keeping your scent outta there. Use rubber boots and gloves, use a rake to make the scrape
smha6784
mock scrape? So what your saying is any deer you enter in contest is ineligible because you didn't shoot it, it just gave up on life?!? Lol What about scent buck pee or something? WStreblo
mock scrape? I kill em on their way to the truck! I had this stuff once, I haven't seen it in a long time either but it was called something like scrape juice or something like that. It was just buck urine but by god you could smell it all the way to freakin Nebraska. It seemed to really be best if I put it out right after a good rain. Try some different stuff in different scrapes and see which one they hammer. I haven't put a mock in for a few years now so I'm out of the latest and greatest loop in that aspect. KEEP IT AS HUMAN SCENT FREE AS POSSIBLE.
whitetailfreak55
Yep rubber boots and gloves. Spray down just like you were hunting. I put them out every year and have awesome luck. Code blue grave digger is what I use. I ha e cameras over mock scrapes now that have been getting hit since early September
smha6784
mock scrape? Once you get it set up does it need to be maintained?
WStreblo
mock scrape? Listen to freak he's a Hoyt man in training!
whitetailfreak55
I have cameras over mine so when I pull cards I freshen it up. If its during hunting season then I'll freshen them up when I hunt that place. Other then that I dont do anything to them and sometimes you can get every buck to use that scrape
wtnhunt
Important to setup your mock scrape where you will have a licking branch. Usually use active scrape here, works pretty well I think, and deer typically take over scrapes which is the goal. Once they take over your scrape there is no point maintaining, however it can peak their interest or tick off a mature deer if you use a dominant buck lure in the scrape prior to hunting. TN Bucknasty
This is going to sound ridiculous, but it happened. I'm not necessarily recommending it either. I read somewhere that you could rake back the leaves and pee on the ground under a low lying branch, and deer would take over your scrape. Out of curiosity, I tried it. I put up a trail camera, and over a three week period, the scrape was investigated by bucks, does, a racoon, a coyote, and a couple of dogs. I got pictures of all of the listed animals urinating in the scrape, and it was still bare when I packed up the camera.

hoosierhunter
mock scrape? The most important aspect is the correct location of the scrape. You have to get the does to hit it. If they do the bucks will follow. I actually pee in my scrapes instead of using deer pee and it works awesome.
wtnhunt
Human urine will work in mock scrapes, not ridiculous at all.

dbHunterNY
can't say I've done what others have said... i use a mock scrape going into a spot cold with no scouting. i pick a good spot along a deer trail where i want the deer to stop. it has to have a good solid overhanging branch. i like soft conifers because i think they have more surface area to hold scent. i take a nearby stick to expose bare dirt. i hang a tink's scent dripper over it with 50/50 tink's 69 and wildlife research hot scrape. brings deer in that night and good for the next morning even. I've never set a mock scrape up with the intent to hunt it the next day, seems like it always takes a week or so to get any activity on it... I might give your way a shot to see what I can do. I got a few decent bucks I'd like to see in close.

smha6784
mock scrape? So here it is. There is a fire break that runs the east property line on my place. It always has a good amount of scrapes on it. Today I picked up the Wildlife Research Magnum scrape drip, so next weekend I'm going to set it up and put a camera on it and we'll see how it goes! rhine16
mock scrape? Rake the leaves back and pee in it. If you've got it in the right place and have a licking branch, I promise you it works just as well as any product out there.
smha6784
mock scrape? I have enough cameras so I'm going to set one up with wildlife research, and one with human pee. We gunna see what happens !!!
TN Bucknasty
How much for 3 oz ? Has to be Non ethanol too! I can't guarantee it to be ethanol free. It may contain traces of Uncle Jesse's "corn extract".
