fly
No archery contest, no discussions or funny stuff, smaller bucks being shot, and no scores on any deer. What set MB apart from the rest no longer does. What do you all think about the new format? I prefer the year they allowed the viewer to choose hunts only or the archery contest and funny pranks. Also prefer a display of the score.
Maine Hntr
I just bought the set a couple weeks ago and have only watched about half of the 1st disc, I was thinking the same thing.. used to have the archery shoots with TBone and Waddell and the scoring etc., now it seems to be just a hunting show with no background narration. I still enjoy it though.
okiedog
I was upset not to see the scores. I can take or leave the archery shoots but not showing the scores is my biggest complaint. I have over 10 years worth of MB videos but this year might be the last if the scores area thing of the past.
RangerClay
I like the archery shoots, that's why I buy it. I can set my VCR and have a copy of every show for season. Why should I have to buy it. Give us a reason to see/buy something different. I have over 10 years worth of MB videos but this year might be the last if the scores area thing of the past. I've been saying this for a while now. The videos are getting dull and same-old, same-old. The camo, is the same-old AP & APG but with XTRA. There really isn't anything different. dbHunterNY
I understand people go in different directions over time but don't fix what isn't broken. haven't bought the newest set. haven't bought them religiously like I did way back when. I always thought the shoots were fun to watch. score isn't important however I really like the idea of having it. just another tool to gauge how big they really are. by the time you're done with the first dvd without any scores i'd think you start seeing just more big bucks. monsters don't seem so big then. ruttinbuc
I find it hard to even watch the Outdoor Channel anymore. It seems to be saturated with the same old, same old with the shows feeding off of one another. I don't know what they can do to make this stuff more appealing. Every hunt begins to look the same regardless of where it takes place.
fly
The reaction of the hunter is a huge part for me. Gotta hand it to Michael for having the most memorable reactions to shooting a big buck. His comments like: "That's a judo chop" followed by a cracking voice with his head buried in his arm was one of the best hunts I've ever seen - all because of the emotion captured on video. Too much emotion can be bad though - the hunt where Vicki C (Ralph's wife) shoots a giant is great, but her high pitched voice was just annoying after the first sentence or two. Perhaps a lot of customers have complained about the videos indicating all they want is the deer walking under the stand, a kill shot, and the dead deer on the ground and now RT has given them that? I just wish they would at least print the scores on an insert if not embedded within the video.
Ravin R10 man
I've bought very few videos or dvd hunts..the Monster Buck tv show seems to be ok yet, I remember when Real Tree Monster Bucks and the OLD Buckmasters would run back to back, now that would get a guy excited to go hunting... Hunt or be Hunted
New Monster Bucks Video I was going to buy the new set. But knowing this I will not. That is weird. Won't buy them anymore if they don't put any fun into it.
Straight Shooter
I'm lost, I will have to check my from last season. I'm pretty sure they were from last year and had the archery shoot and all in them. Could be wrong, I will get back on this.
clrj3514
My Daddy & I used to buy them as soon as they came out each year & it was a big thing for us to sit down & watch them together. Over the last few years though, I guess we've just gotten burned out on them. The first year they put the archery contest in & started showing scores, we loved it! We'd always have a little competition of who could guess closest to the score. If those two elements are gone, I really don't see us ever buying any MB videos again. philray
A person's reaction/emotions of a kill, the joking, and the Camaraderie of friends is a huge part of hunting. In my opinion, if you leave these off it becomes dull, boring, and not worth watching.
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
I haven't bought a Monster Bucks video since around number 16-17. It got pretty boring just going from one person in a tree, kiling a deer, the brief recovery, then on to another person in a tree/blind. I like to see a little more leading up to the hunt kind of like Realtree Roadtrips like showing a little more of the fun that goes on in camp. Ultradog
Interesting thread. I have purchased every MB video for the last 16 years. Maybe longer. It was always something to watch over the summer and get psyched up as the days slooowly counted down to the opener. But this year I didn't buy them. Dunno why. I just didn't. I have noticed over the years there were a lot more kills and less setup stuff on the videos. But the tournament was always a good break between hunts so it kind of evened things out. Gave you a glimpse into some of the hunters that you used to get from the setup. I would hate to see it all just wacking and stacking. Maybe I picked the right year to skip. Any idea of the ratio of bow vs rifle hunts on the videos this year? There used to be more rifle hunts which I liked. I liked the bow hunts too but they dominated the videos and there weren't as many rifle hunts any more.

Hunt or be Hunted
New Monster Bucks Video I'll agree. I have almost every set of MB at home. All the way back to season 8 I think. I always enjoyed the bow shoots and the score count. Like said above I loved guessing the score then seeing how close I was to it. I liked when they use to talk about the hunts before and after them. Like during the breaks. But if it's all straight hunts and no breaks is useless.
