bowhunter97
I need some advice on jacket that'll keep me warm in mid-low 40's weather but I don't have to layer up so much because I'll be shooting a bow. I would like to not get over 100-110 bucks but I need some ideas. Scent lok? Scent blocker?
MNhunterr
I have the Scent Lok Full Season Velocity jacket - Great jacket IMO.

whitetailfreak55
Under armour is probably going to be out of your price range. I have the bone collector suit and it works well
smha6784
Clothing For Bowhunting eBay eBay eBay, I bought all new gear last year lites and heavys. I got scent blocker ants and jacket for what the store wanted for one piece. There's an eBay store called "pine mountain archery" that I got it from. Their buy it now prices are ok buy watch the stuff for bid, that's how I got mine. I paid $125 for the Scent Blocker Bone Collector "Freak Nasty" suit!! I paid $140 for the heavier suit, it's the Scent Blocker I forget the name it's the fleece one.
hoosierhunter
Clothing For Bowhunting I layer with underarmour beneath my Scentblocker. Low to mid 40's would be one or two base layers on top and one one the bottom.
bowhunter97
What do yall think of the UA cold gear line?
Straight Shooter
I don't use under armor or scent lock, just plain ole fleece jacket and light layers underneath for those kind of temps. In the 50's right now in GA and I'm using sweatshirt and t-shirt to layer and staying warm. Trick is to layer correctly, I've just not bought into all gimmick of the scent blocker clothing yet still doing it old style and playing the wind. Lot cheaper. swhughes81
Clothing For Bowhunting I've got the under armour ayton hooded jacket and pants. I love em they are warm lightweight and this years line they put there storm water repellent into it. They are just More than u want to pay unless u can get it on eBay. I think I paid 140 for jacket and 130 for pants. To me they are worth it only because I hate hunting with a bunch of bulk. I didn't get em all at same time either I saved up I bought jacket last summer before season and my wife got me pants last Christmas. This is my first deer season with both. But I have no complaints about the jacket at all it was great.
whitetailfreak55
You got to remember that not all under armour stuff is scent control. So if you're wanting a scent control suit you're going to be laying down some money
swhughes81
Clothing For Bowhunting Whitetailfreaks55 is right I actually got lucky got the scent control tree stand base layer by under armour this last year also warmest most Comfortable base layer I've ever had normally it would have cost 160 for shirt and pants but I shopped around got shirt off eBay for 60 and the pants from cabelas on sale for 44.95 was lucky. My Light base layer I got on clearance too and it's scent control but it's the tek 4 garments hunters specialties had but since done away with. But yes normally anything scent control is way more money.
Rhino
Like some others I layer under my Scent Lok Full Season Suits down to ~30 degrees. The jacket is not bulky at all and plenty of pocket space. For mid 40's with my suits, I'd layer up with a short sleeve T, 2 long sleeve T's, and light weight LJ's on bottom. I'm betting you can pick up just about any jacket for bowhunting you prefer in your price range and layer up for whatever the temp is. Just make sure the jacket is not too bulky and you'll want to wear an arm guard so your bow string doesn't drag you sleeve. The trick to layering is just learning what you really need for the temp to suit you. You don't have to layer with under armor or any other expensive stuff for above freezing temps. To me under armor makes great stuff for when it gets real cold.

MUDRUNNER
For around the 40 degree mark I wear a merino wool base layer under Predator fleece jacket and pants. I think I paid around $150 for the fleece jacket and pants after the season was over a few years ago.

dbHunterNY
i'm a big fan of Under Amour cold gear compression stuff for a base layer; not bulky and super warm. I've got fleece jackets and pants from Scent Blocker for outer layers if it's not going to rain. Nothing quieter than fleece and I use that 80% of the time. otherwise I put on a second layer underneath (vest) and use light weight rain gear like i did this past weekend. that for 40+F temps you asked about. i'm another big fan of these second layers being a vests. they work to keep your outer layer off you so your core stays warm and still allows for free range of movement in your arms. no bulk to get wacked by the bow string. it important to have an outer layer that's wind resistant, both my Field&Stream rain gear and ScentBlocker fleece stuff do that. RangerClay
What do yall think of the UA cold gear line? I NEVER leave home without it. As a base layer this stuff is awesome!! Especially if you work up a sweat walking in. It wicks away so you don't get cold and clammy. I know in your initial post you said you don't want to do layers but really its the best way to keep warm. Here is how I dress for 40 degree morning. (Upper body) First a layer of cold gear, then a heavy duty fleece shirt, fleece vest (the vest is the key for keeping your core warm) then a mid weight jacket. Mine is from Dick's, its their Field and stream brand, cost me $50. I made sure it had a good shell for wind breaking. And make sure it has a hood. (Lower body) Cold gear, fleece sweat pants, then heavy weight insulated pants. Last ly and my most effective weapon against the cold, a good tight facemask. Sure you can put on the war paint like the nuts on Buck Commander but a facemask gives me at least an extra hour in the stand. If the mask interferes with your anchor, watch what Lee Lakosky does with his.
RangerClay
One other perk of Cold Gear is the compression fit. It will feel strange and different at first but you will get used to it. I have found that I get less ticks digging in me because they cannot get past the the tight fit. I found that I need to buy one size larger than my normal size with UA. Edited October 10, 2013 by RangerClay
