LETMGROW
Or is there really. I just spent a few days in North Carolina and went to a Bass-Pro Shop just to look around. They had Federal .22 ammo on the shelf for $2.39 for a box of 50. A limit of 2 boxes per customer. Here in NY it is selling for nearly $10 per box of 50. That is if you can even find any. Most stores will make you take a number on the day ammo arrives, limit the purchase to 2 boxes and when it is gone it is gone. I don't get the price difference at all. They even had impossible to find around here primers for reloading. There is something strange about this. Lynn
arrow32
You can't hardly find .22 ammo here. But you do from time to time. Some of the prices are still around 2 something for 50 or higher on some. Primers were about impossible to find here until about 2 months ago. I stocked uo on them and have plenty now. It is strabge some places have alot of it.
wtnhunt
Yeah Lynn, seems some places are getting limited amounts of product in stock and maybe not moving it as fast as other places. Our local wal mart is getting in 100 boxes at a time of 22's and they are typically gone within and hour or so after they come in. There are hoarders buying it and then also those who are making a buck off of others who are buying. Still wanting to stock up on rifle primers here, but wanting to order powder at the same time so as to only pay one hazmat fee. Unfortunately the few times cabelas has had the primers in they have not had the powder I wanted.
RTF
I live in NY. I just walked into Dicks Sporting goods a few weeks ago and asked for .22's . Guy said yep pulled out a box of 50 rounds and I believe before tax it was under $3.00 a box. Where the heck in NY are seeing $10 a box??? Same Dicks store, I walked in last Friday and didnt even have to ask for a box of 30-06. They are just sitting on the shelf and the price is the same I have been paying for the last few years here in NY. Before tax they were marked $
Ravin R10 man
Larry Poterfield told my brother that he believes the hoarders are creating local runs on ammo. That would explain the roller coaster oin prices/ availability etc.
stevebeilgard
i'll go with the hoarding theory. lots of shells out there.
dbHunterNY
I wouldn't buy it then. In my area it shows up and there's a limit to how much you can buy but it's normal price. That means where you're looking is taking advantage of the situation and you. I bought CCI velocitor 22 (really hot fast stuff) and it was still $8 for 50 I think. I just got a text from a local dealer down here; Fiocchi 22LR high velocity $2.99 per 50. Wasn't interested though. Since I bought the Ruger MarkIII 22 I've stocked up a little. I've got like 1400 rounds still.
LETMGROW
Where the heck in NY are seeing $10 a box??? I stopped in at a couple gun shops up north of here and they were asking $9.95 per box of 50. This was early September. There hasn't been a box on a shelf here since mid April. I don't know what the bigger stores are getting for ammo because they never have it when I can get there. Someone else told me bricks of 500 were going for $100 at the fall gun show in Syracuse. I wasn't there so I can't confirm this. Before all this started we could buy bricks on sale for just over $10. Lynn
dbHunterNY
...same place told me they've got rifle and pistol primers in stock. $32.90 per 1000 with no limit.

The Bug House
>22 Ammo SHORTAGE??????? Better yet, go a little further to tax free NH!!! ETA: Last post was incorrect, it was a box of 500 rounds, not 550, typo !! Edited October 16, 2013 by The Bug House
Mach1
I've checked four stores (Walmart, Farm & Home, Rural King, Bass Pro) in my area for .22 LR over the past few months and haven't seen a box on the shelves. There's just about everything but those.

I csn find any ammo I eant other than .22 for my 9mm I have to look a little harder but prices on everything is about the same as it was. But .22 ammo 9mm and a few other handgun calibers have went up. People around are ripping us off.

Lynn Lynn, that line of "gentlemen" (note sarcasm) that you see at 6am every Wednesday at Gander Mountain are the people who are hoarding the ammo and selling it at shows and on-line for $100 a brick. Get it through their head and it won't be so bad.
dbHunterNY
cheapest I've found (tax included here in NY); 9mm - $0.30/round, .22LR high velocity - $0.05/round, .223 - $0.40/round
too_pointer
If I had full pockets, .22 ammo is around. Growing up with ammo all around, it sure is different learning to not being able to shoot when I feel like it. These days should be getting easier as we grow older, not harder !! too_
Hunt or be Hunted
>22 Ammo SHORTAGE??????? I work at gander mountain and we just got our truck in yesterday. We had a full shelf full of 22 ammo and when I got off work this morning I seen a line of about 6-7 guys outside waiting to get in. Just for 22s. Bet all of it was gone within 45 minutes of us being open.

WHISKEYSWAMP
People are still hoarding it around here it seems... closest place I've found any at a reasonable price is a small sporting goods store a little over an hour away.
