I was wondering if you guys have seen any rut activity yet

Almost whacked a nice 8pt the other day on the way to work. It was easily in the 120's. Saw a headless deer, giant body, in the median of the road yesterday, so they're starting to move around. Both in central Ohio.

Unfortunately, I can't give you any reports from the stand as I haven't even been out with the bow yet.

Cooler weather has them moving around a bit more here, past two mornings in a row had deer on the road in front of me less than 2 miles from our property, was about 2 seconds away from hitting a doe in a curve yesterday morning. No doubt imho that cooler weather makes for more deer rutting activity to be visible with deer moving more during daylight hours when the temps drop below freezing over night, but the actual estrous cycles I do not think are altered by the weather.

Curious about the "professional" forecasters predictions for this years rut. Anyone have any rut predictions for this year? Last few years seemed to have had kind of lingering drawn out ruts. Hard to say on rutting activity here, a bit early here yet, usually the primary rut is just getting started around the 3rd week of November. Should start seeing some pre rut activity soon though, typically see pre rut activity beginning as early as the end of October first of November.

I hunted this evening (Friday) and had a doe coming in and was about to arrow her when I heard grunting. Small 8 was behind her grunting every step, she squatted and took a leak and bounced out of the area he went nose to ground at the spot and went the opposite way. I live in eastern Ohio. Hope this helps

Out of the years I've put in up in Ohio, the smaller bucks are probably starting to nose around. the mature bucks will more than likely be on their feet within the next two weeks. This up coming week is the week I always hunting in Southeast Ohio, bucks making tons of scrapes and beginning to search for the pre-rut. I never liked hunting the full rut stage with those boogers locking down with Does, I hunted two season up there during this time and it was so hard to kill a good buck. That is why we always went during the pre-rut times, lots of movement.

It was and will be difficult to pass up again... but there are two bucks running around much larger. With the sheds and pics from last year we have of one buck, he should score 180+ this year. Hopefully he'll show himself again soon.

good luck going after him! NY is so close yet so far away from Ohio...seems the deer get a little bigger out your way. then the farther you head east in NY the smaller they get.

Went and checked the cameras last sunday and there were several small scrapes along the tree line heading to the first camera, and after checking the images, I had several different bucks "nosing around" and harassing the does, but I haven't seen any in person yet. I think we are starting the pre-rut in OK.

Just a quick thought I live in Indiana I've heard the rut begins where does come into estrus the second moon after the fall equinox, which is the first day of fall. The second full moon after

Fall begins on nov 17 I believe. I expect a lot of chasing and pre rut activity to really began over

The next couple of weeks. Another reason I feel this way it just seems a little slower this year.

I have seen 4 different bucks, not a one reacted to a grunt or snort wheeze, I have seen two different scrapes, but I'm pretty sure it's the little guys making them. You have to hit the pre-rut first! Hunting the rut sucks, cause they get with a doe, your done, pre-rut, they come in ticked off, looking to fight, usually REALLY CLOSE! The majority of my bucks are killed during pre-rut, their cusing, making rubs, getting REAL territorial. You grunt, and they come in on a string straight to you.
