jkarp71 Posted October 25, 2013 Report Share Posted October 25, 2013 This morning I woke up and looked outside and it was snow flurring.I have never seen it snow this early.I live in Washington county Pa south west in the state.my question is could the snow have any affect on the deer starting to rut earlier? Fetus studies have shown primary breeding year in and out occurs around Nov 9-10th regardless of weather in the Midwest. Cool weather will jump start movement but not being the does in any faster. Tominator Posted October 25, 2013 Report Share Posted October 25, 2013 I agree with Hoosier. I'm a firm believer in photoperiodism. I only think cold weather affects the deer movement in the day if it's cooler. Seems to me that warmer weather during the day inhibits their movement. I also think the moon phase plays a part. New moon is November 3rd this year I think. I'd bet a paycheck you see a lot of activity the first 2 weeks of November, but that's not news.
