redkneck
Thought I would be able to share my 14 y/o daughter's first bow kill last night but we ran out of blood. Started out great: But although the deer piled up at 40 yards it got the bleeding settled down and got back on the move. I felt bad for her, but just gotta get back on that horse and try again. wtnhunt
Man that's a shame John. She know where she hit it?
redkneck
Right behind the shoulder she said, almost a pass through. Said she heard bones crack. I don't know but the blood was impressive to start but got scarce quickly. We prob trailed for two hundred yards. Hated to see her lose her first, she's put in a lot of effort. But that's bow hunting.
Straight Shooter
Man, I hate to hear that. Just tell her to hand in there and it'll happen. Best of luck to her on the next one.

PotashRLS
Looks like dark blood John. Possible she hit a rib back by the liver?? My brother killed a doe a few weeks ago that he knew he hit good. She was quartering away and he hit the opposite leg. We found a couple beds after an awesome blood trail. We then saw her up ahead and backed out. Came back later at midnight and found her still alive but barely. She was another 75 yards from where we backed out. She went 250 in total or so. He ended up hitting her through the 3rd rib angling forward with the broadhead popping through on her opposite leg. The arrow stayed in her for the first 75 yards. Somehow he just missed the nearside lung allowing her to live for those hours. He hit the nearside part of the liver and stomach too. All in all it was a darn good hit that most of us would be absolutely confident in. He was beside himself. We all do our best. Good luck to her on the next one. Leo
Looks like muscle blood. Sounds like it stopped bleeding quickly too. That's what muscle only hits often do. Did you find the arrow?
redkneck
No arrow, I'm thinking it was a shot like Tracey described. Too hot down here for a next day retrieval unfortunately. My lab also likely just pushed her further. We'll try again.
Turkeygirl
Does look like a muscle/shoulder hit...I've done it and had the blood start out great like that then stop. Horrible feeling but sounds like a good effort put in. Deer may live through it.
ruttinbuc
I'll add to the muscle hit. Yep, get back on that horse and try again. No worse feeling in the world. All you can do is hope it survives to hunt another day. If it don't it will turn to earth and keep the other critters living. Things need to die for other things to live. Not all is lost. Rhino
Bummer John! Hate that kind of news for both of you. Like you said...climb back on the horse.
