swhughes81
Hey all I haven't hunted much from the ground in the last 13 years I've hunted mostly tree stand a few times from a commercial blind and last year I actually killed a doe out of a barn window lol. Anyway I been posting on here about not seeing many deer what I was thinking of doing Friday night was sitting on the ground edge of cut corn field my wind looks good right now not blowing out to field any tips thinking of cutting a few limbs to lay around me break me up some I don't want to hang a stand. There is a low spot in the field going into the timber it's a drainage ditch a lot of green grass and a clump of trees about 25 yards from the timber thinkin of sittin on hillside up against the timber watch the field and drainage ditch. And see if anything comes from that group of trees or the timber to the field to feed or even the timber across the road the field over there is cut beans. wtnhunt
Fence rows can make for great ground sets, if you have any overgrown grassy fence rows could make ideal. Killed a few from fence rows, grunting/calling has been pretty effective from ground sets too, think every one I have killed from the ground came in on grunt call. I sure miss hunting a few old fence rows like that, now all the cows are gone and the pasture is all set in pines. Killed many a deer from the ground hunting funnels like that. fly
The landowner I have permission to hunt a section of his farm places burlap over the fence and sits behind it in a chair. I personally would rather use natural things as opposed to burlap. I only like gun hunting from a blind - deer never seem to come closer than 50 yards even when it is brushed in. Natural camo (as you mention) is the way to go if you want them in close.
