jcot2773
Ok, so I have family land just over 1000 acres... now here is my dilemma. Right smack in the middle of it is 6 acres that i dont own. I know the person that owns it and we let a hunting club hunt on our property, in exchange for fee's and keeping up the paths that I use to access the property lines. They do run dogs. BUT there is about a 30 acre patch that I know they wont go. Its too thick to access by truck or 4 wheeler. But in that 30 acres i have a flowing water source and large oaks. Do you think it would be worth my time to hack a way in there (just big enough to walk in on) and hang a camera for a week or so just to see whats in there? The whole farm and that is probably the last place left truly untouched by anyone including me over the last 5 years.
swhughes81
Opinions on a spot I'd say it could be a mega hideout for a big buck or when they are feeling the pressure that's where they head. You could be very successful in there. However you also run the risk of spooking them out of there if you go back in there. Remember as much as you practice scent control you will steal leave scent and a big buck will know when something has changed in his environment. In my opinion I might look for the best possible trail into that section and hang your camera there just on the fringes of the thick stuff. This way you might catch them going in our out but your not getting in there knocking them out.

MNhunterr
The only way to find out is to get in there and check for sign.

Dogs will go in there and push deer out. Might still be worth cutting your way in and seittng a camera or two.
bowhunter97
I'd go for it. Just be careful cause you might bust em out of their beds
jcot2773
Dogs will go in there and push deer out. Might still be worth cutting your way in and seittng a camera or two. The guys know that the dogs are not to go near this portion... now granted once they are already running then that cant be helped but they dont push the dogs through it like they do on other parts. Ravin R10 man
I would look into it after season is over for sure, you may get away with setting up a cam on the edge if you find a deer run coming out of it.
dbHunterNY
yea scout it post season for sign and other stuff. if you do go in there use rubber boots and preferably waders sprayed down with scent control spray. go in when the wind is at your face. if you have to blaze a trail just to walk in there i'd say stay out until post season or setup and hunt stands at along the perimeter of it. might not give you a shot opportunity but you'll see what's in there and where they run. then close in if you see something good. jcot2773
Went in last week to look around... littered with sign.... hung a couple cameras and hung a stand. I don't have anpost seas ok n option at all as I'm only home for my mid tour and season runs for another 3 weeks after I'm back on the other siden of the world. Hopefuly with the 2 god days of rain and the week of not touching it will yield some results
