Guest J_Owens_66
Hey Folks, I have a T/C Renegade 50 caliber percussion cap. I'm not sure what twist the barrel is, pretty sure it is 1 in 48 or somewhere in that range. This m/l is designed to shoot round balls, right? Will it shoot sabots accuratly with that rate of twist? I am wanting to get more range and accuracy out of my m/l and thought maybe sabots are the way to go? Thanks
Guest toytruck
Re: M/L Question I have a TC Renegade in .54 cal., yes you have a 1:48 twist and it will shoot RB's fine with lower powder charges. Using a .530 RB and 60 gr. of pryrdex P I get one connecting hole out to 30 yds. I use that for plinking. Your rifle will shoot conicals fine also not sure what grain bullets, but 300-385 should be about right. I killed my first buck with muzzleloader with the Renegade and a 425 grain conical. As far as sabots it should do fine also, you will have to try different bullets/sabots to see which one your rifle likes. I killed seven deer with a TC FireHawk in .54 (1:38 twist) with a Knight 260 gr. bullet/red sabot. I don't have alot of experience with the sabots in my Renegade mostly conicals and roundballs. Hope this helps some.
Guest J_Owens_66
Re: M/L Question Thanks, i can buy a new barrel for the Renegade that is a 1 in 28 twist that is supposed to shoot the sabots and modern bullets better, but i'd not spend the money on it if i don't have to.
